What comes to mind when you hear autism? For many, it’s often reduced to “not making eye contact” or “social difficulties.” But autism is so much more than that.

Autism is a spectrum filled with unique experiences and strengths—from sensory differences and communication styles to creativity, focus, and emotional regulation. Every autistic person’s journey is different, and it goes far beyond the stereotypes. Awareness means understanding the whole picture, not just one piece.

At Heights Family Counseling, we offer comprehensive autism evaluations for individuals as young as 18 months through adulthood. Each evaluation is customized by age and may include cognitive and academic testing, language and social language measures, executive functioning and psychological assessments, and autism-specific tools such as ADOS-2, MIGDAS-2, GARS-3, ASRS, SRS-2, CARS, SLDT-E, CAPs, CAT-Q, and RAADS-R.

If you’re looking for answers, clarity, or support, we’re here for you. 🤍

When emotions are named, they lose some of their power. When they’re ignored, they tend to get louder. 📣

In therapy, we talk a lot about the importance of identifying what you’re actually feeling, not just “stressed” or “fine,” but frustrated, overwhelmed, hurt, anxious, or even hopeful. Naming an emotion helps your brain process it. It creates space between you and the feeling so you can respond instead of react.

Ignored emotions don’t just disappear. They show up in other ways like tension in your body, irritability, burnout, or feeling disconnected. What isn’t acknowledged often gets expressed somewhere else.

Learning to pause and ask, “What am I feeling right now?” is a small shift that can make a big difference. You don’t have to fix it immediately. Just naming it is a powerful first step.

If you’ve been pushing things down, this is your reminder that your emotions are worth paying attention to. 🙌

🧠 Keeping everything in your head can make your thoughts feel jumbled and overwhelming. A simple way to cope is by writing things down. Journaling isn’t just a habit—it’s a proven coping tool. In fact, over 80% of people who journal report better mental health and clarity from the practice.

Putting your thoughts on paper helps you process emotions, sort through what’s really going on inside, and make sense of tangled feelings instead of letting them swirl around in your mind. It’s one small step that can make a big difference in how you understand yourself and your emotions. 💭🖊️
