How “safe” are Chinese herbs?

Most safety issues don’t come from Chinese herbs themselves, but from HOW they’re used.

Chinese herbal medicine is safest when it’s prescribed intentionally, not taken like a generic supplement.

Safe herbal care looks like this:
• Herbs sourced from tested, reputable suppliers
• Formulas tailored to your body and health history
• Prescribed by a trained herbalist
• Adjusted over time as your body changes

Herbs were never meant to be one-size-fits-all or self-prescribed. So yes, they are safe when they’re guided by clinical knowledge and experience!

Any Chinese herbs you’ve always wanted to try but hesitated because you weren’t sure if they were safe?

Feeling heavy, foggy, or sluggish?

In Chinese medicine, this is often described as "dampness."

Dampness can show up as:
• bloating
• fatigue or heaviness
• brain fog
• digestive discomfort
• a feeling of being “stuck” or weighed down (your head may feel heavy or your feet are dragging)

It often builds when digestion is overloaded from diet, stress, or chronic imbalance.

That’s why in TCM, we don’t just try to “dry” dampness. We support the systems responsible for transforming food and energy.

Depending on how dampness shows up, herbal formulas may be used to help restore balance:
👉 Wen Dan Tang - Used when dampness disrupts sleep, the patient has anxiety and palpitations.
👉 Er Miao Wan - Used when dampness causes an achey body or joints, swelling, and urinary symptoms.

Herbs aren’t about forcing change. They’re about supporting the body so symptoms don’t keep repeating.

If this feels familiar, it’s worth paying attention. I’m happy to help you explore what might be contributing.

Sometimes our body might not be “reacting randomly.” It may be responding to food it doesn’t tolerate well.

So to support this... I'm inviting you to join me in my 10-Day Detox Challenge (paired with a simple elimination diet) starting Feb 19!

PS: Comment ME if you're joining so we can have fun together 👀

If you’ve been dealing with:
• bloating
• fatigue
• headaches
• digestive discomfort
• feeling inflamed or sluggish

These symptoms can be linked to food sensitivities. An elimination diet removes common food triggers so you can clearly see what supports you and what doesn’t.

In TCM, this reduces internal stress on digestion and supports overall balance.

🔖 Save this for DAY 1 on FEB 19!

It was a weekend gave me the clarity I didn’t know I was missing.

I spent a few days immersed in Chinese herbal medicine last January 17th, reconnecting with the foundations of TCM and refining how I want to serve my patients moving forward, especially as I deepen my focus on herbal medicine alongside acupuncture.

Grateful to learn from , and be inspired by Michael Peluso, Rebecca Ong .easy.doctor, Chris Volesky , and the entire Harmonize by TCM Club community!

And yes, if you’ve noticed my website is currently down 🥲 Let’s consider it part of a bigger reset happening behind the scenes. If you need to reach me in the meantime, please call the office at 281.385.8511.

Sometimes things pause so they can come back more aligned!

I get it. New year energy hits and suddenly everything feels possible.

But here's what most people miss: Your nervous system decides how well any of that actually works.

Before the goals. Before the push to become someone "better." You need to start with the foundation: your nervous system.

It controls how well you sleep, how you digest your food, how you respond to stress, and how sustainable any change actually is.

When your nervous system is overloaded, even the best intentions feel exhausting. You start strong and burn out by February.

When it's supported?
🤍 Consistency becomes easier.
🤍 Focus softens.
🤍 Your body feels safer trying something new.

January doesn't need force. It needs stability.

Acupuncture supports your nervous system by regulating stress hormones, improving sleep quality, and helping your body shift out of survival mode. It creates the foundation that your plans can actually stand on. 👍

Slow care now means steadier progress later.

If supporting your nervous system feels like the right first step, I still have some spots for January. Book through the link in bio!

Taiwanese researchers discovered acupuncture triggering stem cell release healing damaged organs naturally. Scientists at China Medical University found that electroacupuncture at specific meridian points stimulates bone marrow to release mesenchymal stem cells into circulation, which then migrate to injured organs and promote tissue repair. This mechanism explains acupuncture's therapeutic effects through measurable biological processes rather than placebo.

Traditional Chinese medicine has used acupuncture for thousands of years, but Western medicine dismissed it as placebo due to lack of biological mechanism. Taiwanese researchers using advanced imaging and cellular tracking discovered that needle stimulation at specific points triggers measurable stem cell mobilization—providing the first clear biological explanation for acupuncture's effects.

Electroacupuncture (needles with mild electrical current) at ST36 (Zusanli point) and GV20 (Baihui point) causes a 300% increase in circulating stem cells within 24 hours. These mobilized stem cells express homing signals drawing them to damaged tissues—injured liver, heart, kidneys, or brain—where they differentiate into organ-specific cells and release healing factors. It's like acupuncture triggers the body's internal repair dispatch system.

Stroke patients receiving electroacupuncture within 48 hours of stroke showed 40% better functional recovery than those receiving standard care alone. Liver cirrhosis patients showed reduced fibrosis markers. Heart attack survivors demonstrated improved cardiac function. The mechanism is entirely biological—traced stem cells from bone marrow to damaged organs. Skeptical Western physicians are reconsidering acupuncture given this mechanistic evidence. We're discovering that ancient healing practices work through sophisticated biological mechanisms science is only now capable of detecting.

As we settle into the new year, I want to pause and say thank you.

Thank you for trusting me with your health. For showing up to appointments even when life was full. For being honest about what your body was carrying. For allowing me to be part of your healing process. This work means so much to me!

To my family and friends, thank you for your patience, your quiet support, and for holding space for me in ways you may not even realize. For the check-ins, shared meals, and conversations that reminded me who I am beyond work.

My hope for you is rest. Real rest. Not just time off, but the kind where your body actually feels settled. The kind where your nervous system can exhale.

I hope 2026 brings more moments of presence, nourishing meals, meaningful connections, and space to slow down as you begin what’s next!

Jenny 💕
