Here at Houston Behavioral we are recognizing those who are "Making Black History" within our facility. Here we would like to introduce our Outpatient Case Management.

Thelma McCellan felt led to pursue a new path, which brought her into the world of mental health after spending nearly 20 years in education. Although she entered this field with no prior professional experience, Thelma quickly discovered how much she genuinely loves the work. Every day, Thelma continues to learn and grow in her understanding of mental health. This field has taught Thelma that mental illness affects people from every background—regardless of ethnicity, age, or economic status. "Being part of a team that helps individuals rebuild and reclaim their lives has been one of my greatest honors".

Here at Houston Behavioral we are recognizing those who are "Making Black History" within our facility. Here we would like to introduce our Director of Utilization Review and Case Management.

Rachelle Spears is a proud graduate of Texas Southern University, where she earned her degree in Education in 2012. That same year, she began her journey in mental health, driven by a passion to advocate, support, and create meaningful change. "What started as a calling became a career—and through consistency, resilience, and faith in my purpose, I grew into leadership". Rachelle Spears story is one of growth, representation, and breaking barriers. "I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, and I hope to open doors for those coming after me". This is her contribution to Black history—past, present, and future. Educated. Purpose-driven. Leading with impact.

Here at Houston Behavioral we are recognizing those who are "Making Black History" within our facility. Here we would like to introduce our Inpatient Therapist.

Joshua Epkins is a Program Therapist at HBHH, licensed master social worker. He is also an Amry Reserve Preventive Medicine Specialist NCO. Recently he was call to duty to a deployment setting in Central America. Joshua was called to provide support for humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and counter drug operations. "One of my greatest achievements was following the footsteps of my father, my great grandfather, and my great great uncles to answer the call to serve. Joshua goal is to eventually serve as an Army Behavioral Health Officer as a LCSW. What lead him to the mental health field was the dismissive remarks of the importance of mental health in military culture and in his ethnic culture. Joshua has a desire to create awareness about the importance of protecting your mental health and challenging others to make it part of their day-to-day life.

Healthy relationships, of any kind, include respect, communication, and boundaries. Saying no, asking for space, and protecting your emotional well-being are all signs of strength.
