New Year’s Eve reminder:
Progress in speech isn’t loud.
It’s quiet moments, small wins and showing up again tomorrow.
If that was your year, you’re doing it right. ✨

Here’s another cozy winter book. 🐻❄️
Bear Snores On is one of those stories kids ask for again and again and honestly, I don’t mind.
It’s calm, predictable, and full of little moments kids love to join in on.
Perfect for slowing down and reading close 🤍❄️

📘 Winter Is Here – Kevin Henkes
❄️🤍
Not every winter book needs a holiday theme.
This one is perfect for:
• commenting
• shared attention
• slow, meaningful moments
Sometimes the best language growth happens quietly.

MYTH:-

It’s just a speech delay! They’re being lazy! Don’t worry, they’ll catch up in their own time! Their sibling’s talking for them !

REALITY:-

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), previously known as Verbal dyspraxia, is a neurological speech disorder. People with CAS have difficulty making the precise movements required for speech but there is no evidence of nerve or muscle damage. They have difficulty producing individual speech sounds and sequencing sounds together in words. This can make their speech unintelligible even to family members.

There is no quick fix.

Children with CAS will have to have years of specialist, intensive speech therapy with a speech and language therapist to have any chance of improving their speech.

Learning to talk is a very slow process.

For the majority of us, our speech will become intelligible but even then we can be left with speech sound errors and word finding difficulties making our speech seem disjointed.

CAS is a diagnosis that can stand alone or co- occur with many diagnosis’. It is not known by any other name like tongue tie, speech delay or laziness to name just a few I’ve heard.

There is no cure.

As we grow older we find coping strategies, we learn to live with and embrace our differences. CAS is a very real, life long neurological speech disorder that many people live with.

My New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania families woke up to a snow day!! Happy to be here to get my share of a snow in Central Park!
Winter play is packed with language opportunities, if we slow down and talk around it.

If your kid loves trucks, this is an easy win.
The sounds, the rhythm, the helpers helping. I love it because it seems to pull kids right into the story.
I love books like this because kids don’t just listen… they participate 🚛❄️
And that’s where the magic happens.
