Cases for Smiles - Houston Ryan's Case for Smiles and it's Houston volunteers are helping kids feel better to heal better. A hospital stay can be a terrifying experience for a child.

Ryan's Case for Smiles is dedicated to helping sick children cope with the stress of life changing illnesses and injuries. We provide children with whimsical pillowcases throughout North America to give them an emotional boost and hope that enhances their emotional well-being. So terrifying that 20% of children who survive cancer meet the full clinical diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). That's a similar rate of PTSD to all U.S. Military Veterans since the Vietnam War. The good news is our whimsical pillowcases actually provide children with seven proven stress relievers during their hospital stays. These stress relievers include:
1. Comfort
2. Distraction / Play
3. Choice / Control
4. Familiarity
5. Expression
6. Connection
7. Hope

Our new partnerships with the nation's leading child psychologists are helping us develop and distribute coping tools for families, with a goal to help children feel better to heal better. With every stitch, every yard of fabric and every pillowcase, we get one step closer to our goal of helping kids with life changing illnesses or injuries, feel better to heal better.

I was making my deliveries today and one of my hospitals had stopped accepting pillowcases due to COVID, but today I received a message from my bonus daughter about a friend who had her 5-year-old son at this hospital. So, I told her I would personally deliver the pillowcase while I was in the area. Well, I went to the hospital, not realizing the security they have, and they told me I would need the parents to approve me going to the room. So, I decided to just go to Volunteer Services and ask them if they could deliver the pillowcases, and they told me yes, they could. I asked if I could start delivering pillowcases, and she told me yes, they are now accepting pillowcases. I was so excited, and then I received these pictures from the parent. Just wanted to share! A GREAT day !!

Today I got to present my 3 Million Smiles Pillowcase every coordinator got fabric to make this pillowcase for a child. It was a great day ! She was so sweet and loved her pillowcases. I finally got to wear my t-shirt 😂. Thanks to all my volunteers that make these pillowcase to make kids smile. 😊

Miles of Pillowcase Smiles - My sincere thanks go to my fantastic volunteers for their hard work in sewing pillowcases. They are arriving in large numbers. Please contribute by sewing one, two, or more pillowcases to help us meet our target of 40,000 pillowcases for September. I am grateful to Bobbins and Thread Quilt shop for serving as my pillowcase drop-off point. It is a delightful shop that everyone should consider visiting. Happy Sewing!
