The University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic will be closed for the holidays from December 24 – January 2.

Join us on Saturday, January 24th from 11 AM–1 PM for our Simple Sensory Strategies workshop 🤗!

Designed to support families of children with autism through practical, evidence-based tools!

Occupational therapist Cara Ramos, OTR, MOT, will guide parents and caregivers through strategies that can help increase or reduce sensory input in everyday environments-empowering families to better understand their child’s sensory needs and create supportive routines at home, school, and in the community.

Following the workshop, Sadaf Ali, MA, CCC-SLP, will lead a networking activity to help families build meaningful connections, share experiences, and strengthen their support systems.

Our team had a wonderful time at the 2025 “Boots & Bling” Senior Event! 👢✨

Hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, on November 5th at the Cy-Fair ISD Visual & Performing Arts Building.

Nathalie LeBrun and two of our UH students represented the clinic with pride as they connected with seniors, shared hearing health resources, and supported a day full of wellness and community engagement. 🤍🎙️

A session about connection, confidence, and clarity!

Our University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic team spent the day at the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston – Jack Segal Academy providing residual “r” therapy using visual supports and evidence-based techniques. 📚💬

It’s incredible to see how much progress students make when therapy feels engaging, supportive, and meaningful!

🧠 Have you ever hit your head and just didn’t feel quite right afterward?

Even minor head injuries can have lasting effects, and sometimes the signs aren’t always obvious.

The HELPS Screening Tool is a quick and confidential way to check for possible symptoms of a brain injury. Each letter in HELPS stands for a key question to help identify whether further evaluation might be needed:

H – Have you ever been Hit on the head?
E – Were you seen in the Emergency Room or by a doctor for a head injury?
L – Did you ever Lose consciousness or feel dazed or confused?
P – Do you experience Problems with memory, balance, or mood?
S – Any lasting Sickness or physical symptoms?

If you answered “yes” to any of these, you may be showing signs of a traumatic brain injury and early screening can make all the difference!
