Age Well Live Well Expo This event is a great opportunity for senior adults and the adult children of seniors to obtain information. All activities are free and open to the public.

(Houston) – On Thursday, May 12, 2011, Champion Forest Baptist Church (15555 Stuebner-Airline Road, Houston, TX 77069), together with over 30 exhibiting partners, covering all areas of wellness and enhanced living, will host their second “Age Well ~ Live Well” Expo in Houston from 10:00am to 1:00pm.The vision for this local event is for citizens to live longer, live safely and live well in Houston communities. The “Age Well ~ Live Well” Expo is designed to assist older individuals, at-risk adults, persons with disabilities and their families/caregivers in achieving safe, healthy, independent and self-reliant lives. Join the Houston community for health screenings, information and resources from a variety of wellness exhibitors along with presentations and live entertainment. Health Screenings include Cholesterol, Vision, Bone Density, Blood Glucose/Diabetes, Pulmonary Function, Gait and Balance, Blood Pressure and Skin Cancer Screening (face and hands). Parking is available in the church parking lot. Handicap parking is available. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), as a featured event partner, will open the expo with a presentation on “Age Well ~ Live Well,” a collaborative community initiative that promotes health and volunteerism activities, provides Texas communities with valuable information on programs and services to enhance every aspect of overall well-being, and includes resources for older Texans or persons with disabilities. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) provides a comprehensive array of services to older Texans and persons with disabilities that support, promote and enhance well being, dignity and choice. DADS programs highlighted during the Expo include Texercise and Silver Lining:
Texercise, DADS statewide health and wellness program, promotes, educates and encourages older adults about the importance of regular physical activity and healthy eating habits throughout the lifespan. DADS Silver Lining, a volunteer outreach program, assists in providing social connections for Texas long-term care residents through planned volunteer visits, activity resources and recognition support.
