Habari Gani? Umoja! ("Unity!")

Habari Gani? Umoja!

Today, we light the first candle of Kwanzaa to honor Umoja—unity. Umoja reminds us of the sacred bond we share as family, community, and a people deeply rooted in resilience, culture, and love. It is the call to stand together, to heal together, and to rise together.

Kwanzaa, at its heart, is more than a celebration—it is a reclamation. It is a time to pause and honor our ancestors, to pour love into ourselves and our communities, and to dream boldly for our future. The seven principles, or Nguzo Saba, are the foundation of this week, guiding us to reflect, to build, and to grow.

As a Black woman and a proud business owner, I see Umoja in every part of my life—in the sisterhood that uplifts me, in the hands that have tilled the soil of my dreams, and in the spirit of my ancestors who remind me that I am never alone.

Let today be a call to unite with purpose, with passion, and with love. Whether through a kind word, an intentional action, or a shared prayer, let us embody Umoja in all that we do.

Lalu K is a devoted mother, certified herbalist, womb therapist, spiritualist, creator and owner of Lalu's Treasures and Lalu's Roots N Conjure.

2015, wanting to find a space where black girls can go and be spiritually free while basking in all of our Goddess/ship led Lalu to birth this spot. Always in tuned with flowers, herbs and all things Earth magick, Lalu draws her creative energy to handcraft chemical free Yoni (Feminine Care) and sacred ritual tools to adorn the divine feminine + evoke the enchantment to day to day routine.

Lalu's Treasures online shop is a fast growing idie brand, carefully curated spiritual goods + gifts, specializing in natural skincare.

What is an indie brand? It means all aspects of the business are handled by me. This includes creating each recipe + making each product in fresh batches with organic ingredients. I package + ship every order personally. I am also the one who designs every label, manages the website and answers each of your emails!
