With Gratitude to Those Who Served

Every year, we observe Veterans Day to recognize those who have served our nation as part of our armed forces. We honor these individuals for their sacrifice and devotion, here at Legacy and across the country.

Featured here are a few of the many veterans who contribute to Legacy's mission:

Joseph Mayers, United States Army - "This day is a day to reflect on the current serving military members and the sacrifice their families make while a service member is away from home."

Melody Gray, United States Air Force - "As the daughter of a World War II Veteran, I felt so proud to serve my country. I joined the Air Force from 1983 and served overseas at RAF Bentwaters and Travis AFB in California as an Air Cargo Specialist until 1988. I achieved the rank of Sergeant and received the Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Noncombat Meritorious Service in 1987. I am a fierce advocate for Veteran's rights and protections and champion legislation and public support for veterans and their families."

Nelson Matute, Texas State Guard - "This day reminds me of the value of serving my community, the State of Texas and my country with purpose, dedication and selflessness, giving others the chance to be free."

Oliver Peralta, United States Army - "Veterans Day is important to me because it's a time to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who've served in our armed forces. ⛳️ A Day of Golf, Giving & Great Vibes!
Legacy Community Health wrapped up the 15th Annual Frank Billingsley Golf Classic, and it was our biggest one yet! Thanks to our amazing golfers, sponsors, and volunteers, we raised a record-breaking $500,000 to support student health care across Houston. 🎉

Hosted at Sweetwater Country Club, the day kicked off with a delicious breakfast and swag-filled backpacks before teams hit the greens. Sponsor tents kept the energy high, and the afternoon wrapped up with lunch, raffles, and a live auction that brought the fun (and the funds)!

🌟 All proceeds go to Legacy’s School-Based Health Care program, which brings primary and mental health services straight to students at 39 campuses across KIPP, YES Prep, and Galena Park ISD. That means more kids can get the care they need, right at school.

A huge thank you to our presenting sponsors, Equitable, Hawkins Laakso, and Pinnacle Environmental Services, and to everyone who helped make this event unforgettable. Because of you, more students will stay healthy, focused, and ready to learn.

Legacy’s partnership with YES Prep Public Schools is all about making sure students have access to care that helps them thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally. Because we believe: “To learn well, you must be well.”

💬 Stephanie Ramirez, VP of School-Based Health Clinics at Legacy, joined YES Prep CEO Isy Castillo for an interview with KPRC 2, talking about how school-based care is making a real difference for Houston families. Stephanie also spoke with Univision Houston to share more about expanding access to care.

💬 Vivian Echevarria Guzman, Senior Director of School-Based Therapy, joined KHOU 11 alongside Adrienne Brown, Principal at YES Prep Hobby Secondary, to talk about why mental health support in schools is so important.

📣 Big news for Houston families!

Legacy has officially opened two new school-based health clinics at YES Prep Hobby Elementary and YES Prep Hobby Secondary, bringing our total to 39 clinics across Greater Houston.

These clinics aren't just about convenience, they're about care that's built into the school day. Whether it's a routine checkup, a dental exam, a vaccine, or support for mental health, Legacy ensures that students receive the care they need to thrive in and out of the classroom.

Last year, our school-based health care program provided:

🩺 Over 76,000 appointments
👩‍⚕️ Care for nearly 15,000 students
💬 Services including primary care, behavioral health, dental, and more

As our CEO, Robert Palussek, shares in his latest blog, this expansion is part of a bigger mission: to open doors to health, build trust with families, and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn well by being well.

All Legacy clinics and pharmacies will be closed on Labor Day, September 1, with the exception of Legacy Southwest Campus. Our Legacy Southwest Campus located at 6441 High Star 77074 will be available to address pediatric walk-ins from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

All locations will resume regular clinic hours on Tuesday, September 2.

🍼 August is National Breastfeeding Month and we’re celebrating YOU. The parents, families and caregivers who make nurturing choices every day.

From August 1–7, we joined the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week with a special tabling event across 8 Legacy clinics. Families received educational materials, giveaways, and connected with our care teams to learn more about breastfeeding support and the new breastfeeding education classes offered throughout the month. 🎉

Meet Alejandra Zuniga, our Prenatal Navigation Manager, who’s helping families overcome barriers to breastfeeding with compassion and culturally responsive care.

Need personalized support? Our certified lactation consultant, Yanett Hodgson, is here for you, and offers one-on-one visits, telehealth, and walk-ins at our Southwest Clinic.

Breastfeeding is more than milk, it’s about bonding, healing, and building a healthier future. 💪

This week, Legacy's Early Childhood Development team came out to support Kids' Meals, Inc., which works to fight childhood hunger in Houston.

🎨 We brought 142 beautifully decorated lunch bags created by our amazing Legacy team members.
🥪 Together, we packed 600 nutritious lunches for preschoolers across the city.
🚚 Kids' Meals delivers 9,000 meals daily to food-insecure children in Houston.

Thank you to everyone at Kids' Meals and to our Legacy team members who helped make a difference.

🎒📚 Back-to-School Success Across Texas!

Legacy Community Health had an incredible Back-to-School season, spreading smiles, supplies and stories across Houston, Beaumont and beyond!

At BakerRipley Community Schools, we gave away 150 backpacks and over 1,000 books, including 800 generously donated by Molly, Daileya and their amazing family. 💖 Thank you for helping us spark a love of reading!

Across six events in one weekend, our team, pharmacy staff and volunteers showed up strong, from PlazaAmericas, Alief ISD, SW Public Schools, Sisters of Charity, and the City of Houston Mayor’s Back-to-School Bash, to our Beaumont Festival, where we handed out 1,000+ backpacks and celebrated with families. 🎉

📦 In total, we stuffed and distributed 2,600 drawstring bags filled with school supplies, 1,600 shipped to sites from Alief to Baytown, and 1,000 more shared at community events. That’s impact in action!
