The Montrose Center was founded in 1978 as Montrose Counseling Center to address the gap in accessible and affirming mental health services for gay men and lesbians. The Center was one of the first to respond to the emergence of HIV and AIDS in the 1980s and continues to provide HIV counseling, case management, housing, and emergency financial assistance to those living with HIV. Over the years, we have expanded our services to include intensive outpatient treatment for alcohol and substance use recovery, violence survivor services regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crimes and human trafficking through our Anti-Violence Program, HIV/STI community health screenings, education and outreach, and programs designed specifically to meet the needs of youth and seniors. Our LGBT Switchboard 24-hour help line is also accessible 24-hours a day for crisis intervention, peer phone counseling, and information/referral. The Center regularly provides health education and disease prevention outreach to more than 40,000 individuals each year, and offers training to schools, corporations and healthcare professionals on these topics as well as general LGBTQ+ diversity issues. Over the last 40+ years, the Montrose Center has become Houston's hub for the LGBTQ+ community, regularly organizing events and programing in our first floor community center. With everything from free wellness and educational classes to meetings and events hosted by dozens of other social, civic and nonprofit groups, there is literally something for everyone happening at the Center nearly every day

The Center is an affiliated agency of United Way of Greater Houston and accredited by The Joint Commission in behavioral health. It became the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Texas and remains the only CCBHC in the nation with a focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and people living with HIV. We have an Institutional Review Board [IRB] that must approve any and all surveys conducted through the Montrose Center and its electronic outlets (website, social media, email, etc.). Please contact Rick Musquiz at 713.529.0037 or rmusquiz@montrosecenter.org. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are thrilled that you are part of the political process and a registered voter, but any partisan political comments will be removed.

Every fairy tale needs heroes behind the scenes. ✨

Meet two of the Co-Chairs of the Empowering Our Future Gala: Robby Guthart and BJ Gill. These two know that the best adventures require a little pixie dust, a lot of heart, and the courage to believe in second stars to the right. They've been building an unforgettable Once Upon a Time celebration where Houston's LGBTQ+ community gets to fly.

The event benefits the Montrose Center and our youth services, because every young person deserves to write their own happily ever after.

Costumes and drag strongly encouraged. Shadows optional.

A huge thank you to Laura Zavala-Membreno, licensed therapist and our Anti-Violence Program Director here at the Montrose Center, for leading a beautiful and powerful session. 💜

Join us every third Wednesday of the month at the Montrose Center for Wellness Wednesday, where each month brings a new theme and a space to show up for yourself and your community. 🌿
