The Montrose Center was founded in 1978 as Montrose Counseling Center to address the gap in accessible and affirming mental health services for gay men and lesbians. The Center was one of the first to respond to the emergence of HIV and AIDS in the 1980s and continues to provide HIV counseling, case management, housing, and emergency financial assistance to those living with HIV. Over the years, we have expanded our services to include intensive outpatient treatment for alcohol and substance use recovery, violence survivor services regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crimes and human trafficking through our Anti-Violence Program, HIV/STI community health screenings, education and outreach, and programs designed specifically to meet the needs of youth and seniors. Our LGBT Switchboard 24-hour help line is also accessible 24-hours a day for crisis intervention, peer phone counseling, and information/referral. The Center regularly provides health education and disease prevention outreach to more than 40,000 individuals each year, and offers training to schools, corporations and healthcare professionals on these topics as well as general LGBTQ+ diversity issues. Over the last 40+ years, the Montrose Center has become Houston's hub for the LGBTQ+ community, regularly organizing events and programing in our first floor community center. With everything from free wellness and educational classes to meetings and events hosted by dozens of other social, civic and nonprofit groups, there is literally something for everyone happening at the Center nearly every day

The Center is an affiliated agency of United Way of Greater Houston and accredited by The Joint Commission in behavioral health. It became the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Texas and remains the only CCBHC in the nation with a focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and people living with HIV. We have an Institutional Review Board [IRB] that must approve any and all surveys conducted through the Montrose Center and its electronic outlets (website, social media, email, etc.). Please contact Rick Musquiz at 713.529.0037 or rmusquiz@montrosecenter.org. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are thrilled that you are part of the political process and a registered voter, but any partisan political comments will be removed.

A Special Message from Ed Nelson:

This year gave me two moments I'll never forget. Being in the Pride parade representing the Montrose Center wasn't just about waving from a float. It was about showing our community that they have a home here. That no matter what they're searching for, no matter what they need, we'll either have it or we'll find someone who can help. Being able to share that message in person, to look people in the eye and say "we see you, we're here for you," that meant everything to me.

But the moment that truly changed me was Out for Good. For the first time in public, I got to show my gender-fluid side, to step fully into my feminine role without fear or hesitation. I was terrified and exhilarated all at once. And then the love came pouring in. The acceptance from everyone here at the center wrapped around me like the warmest hug I've ever felt. It reminded me why this place is so special because we don't just talk about acceptance, we live it.

I'm looking forward to more growth, more chances to be authentically me, and more opportunities to show people what the Montrose Center can do. Because when we help someone empower themselves, we're not just changing one life. We're changing our entire community.

Huge thanks to Southwest Airlines for sending us some holiday joy! Southwest Airlines was one of the first companies to support our mission nearly two decades ago. We are proud to say that Southwest Airlines is the official airline of the Montrose Center.

A huge thank you to Chevron for an incredible World AIDS Day event! 🎗️

On December 4th, our Montrose Center staff joined the Chevron team, who built almost 3,000 hygiene kits for those in need. It was beautiful to see many folks coming together for our community. On December 11th, Chevron delivered all the kits to us, bringing dignity, care, and support to the people we serve.

Partnerships like this remind us what's possible when we show up for each other.

Thank you, Chevron, for your commitment to our community. We're grateful to have you by our side! 💙
