Whether the result of weight loss, aging, or genetics, loose skin is often bothersome to patients and hides the results of hard work in the gym. In this patient’s case, we removed the excess skin and refined the contour to create a smoother, more proportionate shape. When the American Society of Plastic Surgeons () asked, “How old is ‘too old’ for plastic surgery?”, I responded that: “‘too old’ really means ‘not being healthy or well enough’… [W]hile age is a consideration, ‘there are some very, very healthy individuals in their 70s and 80s, so if I have patients that are older seeking surgery, I simply get clearance from their internist and/or their cardiologist just to make sure that it is safe, but beyond that, I think it’s up to them.’” These individuals then go on to safely enjoy beautiful, natural-looking results to feel and look their best self.

In reality, being a good candidate for plastic surgery is about the patient’s health and vitality rather than chronological age. Thank you to for asking for my perspective and highlighting that the number of Americans over 65 is rapidly increasing, with many in this age group pursuing aesthetic plastic surgery.
