Gosh there are SO many things I wish people knew about Gastroparesis, but I feel like these 3 are pretty important.

- Most people can't quite understand what it is we go through or have, so they just equate it to a bad stomachache.... it's much more than that.

- Even doctors have told patients it's just all in their head and given them meds for that, when really, they are just too lazy to try to do more.

- And no, it's not a great way to lose weight. It's incredibly unhealthy, trust me, I know. And for some, they gain weight, so that doesn't even apply.

There are 3 things I can ALWAYS do to help calm my tummy when it’s upset.
1. Staying hydrated. I start with warm lemon water to soothe and then continue to drink my lemon water the rest of the day.
2. A cup of warm bone broth always helps to settle it!
3. Get outside & move! A walk, some stretching or even a workout outside will do the trick.

A little Halloween fun coming your way today!

Jack O Lantern Protein Balls
Makes 8 balls
3/4 cup Nut Butter of choice (runny)
1/3 cup Pureed Pumpkin
1/4 cup Maple Syrup
1 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 3/4 cup Oats (rolled)
1/8 tsp Sea Salt
1/2 cup Vanilla Protein Powder
1 scoop Collagen Powder
3 tbsps Dark Chocolate Chips (mini)Pretzels (broken into pieces)

In a bowl, combine the nut butter, pumpkin, maple syrup, vanilla, oats, salt, protein powder, and collagen powder. Place in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes before shaping into approximately two-inch balls. If the batter is a little sticky, wet your hands.
Arrange the chocolate chips onto each ball to resemble jack-o'-lanterns. Add a piece of pretzel to each to make a stem. Eat right away or place in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes. Enjoy!

It's wild, the little things we miss when we are in the thick of our Gastroparesis.
One of my clients a few years back had this goal to just be able to eat raw carrots again without pain and sickness.

Success. ✅
When just chatting on an email, she sent me this and it's stuck with me all this time, because it's crazy to me that we just want something so simple. So normal.
Something that others wouldn't even think twice about grabbing a carrot and eating it.
🥕
And as I was at a baby shower for a friend yesterday and grabbed a carrot to eat, I was instantly reminded of this email she sent me and how it wasn't even a thought for me anymore, either.

It's possible for me, for her and for you. Whatever your goal is, I can get you there.

The first thing everyone looks up or asks when trying to tackle this Gastroparesis thing is.....

Diet.

And yea, that makes sense, but it's not quite the right piece.

It's also not the first thing I tackle with clients.

What is the missing piece?
Nerve Toning.

You can read a bit more about nerve toning on the blog.
But it doesn't really matter what you eat, if your brain and gut aren't connecting to send each other messages.

We have to work on that first, and we do that by a technique I like to call nerve toning.
We are going to stimulate the Vagus nerve to get it all moving.

So, here's an easy one for you to try right now!

Humming!

Yup, that simple.
Try humming for 3 minutes before a meal or while you are making the meal.
It's not going to be some magical cure-all, but it will start waking that nerve up!
This is the most important piece.
