How do you train for a climb? Do you just go to the climbing gym and get repetitions in? Yes! That’s part of it. It’s one you can do whether it’s raining or not. But good training. For anything begins with good sleep, quality nutrition, and supplemental conditioning.
Good sleep is the most important because it’s when you recover most. And training basically insinuates that you’re preparing yourself to do something bigger than you’ve ever done. Or at least do something bigger you haven’t done in a while. That means that you’re probably tearing muscles and building strength and stamina. All of which takes healing and recovery to make a quality difference. Sleep is best.
Without the proper nutrition, you won’t have the ingredients needed to maximize the output for the new you.
And proper training for climbing means, focusing on quick and powerful endurance. That I can get from repetitions at the climbing gym. But also in outdoor climbing. Using resistance bands, low weight with high repetitions and some long cardio and yoga. I want to be able to maintain my breathing when im holding n to the rock or the mountain for long periods of time. I want to be able to climb 14k feet, which can take 6-10 hours a day, without losing stamina or focus. I need to be able to stay cool under pressure. So mixing my workouts, and the times in which I workout, is so key to maintain flexibility of all those factors and have a smooth climb.

My mantra during intention setting the past month or so has been “peace to process”, and its helped me, but suddenly I became aware that although I’ve remained peaceful through the process of balancing many new tasks, emotions, and experiences, I’ve forgotten to just be with my awareness, and that in itself can bring me peace. .

“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” - Lao Tzu
The original intention for was to provide a place of healing that felt different. Where people could have fun and enjoy themselves while learning about and implementing health. I think we’ve done a pretty good job of that. ‘s intention was to extend that feeling to world. I think we’re on pace for that. I’m so thankful for our community we get to be a part of. They’re so kind. So giving. So loving. I feel so supported by them. It makes the work so much more meaningful knowing that the support I get, I get to give back. To provide a place of innovative healing. A place that evolves day by day, manifesting itself in a very loving way..

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” —George Bernard Shaw⠀⠀
So many times this year has the message of creating myself been so resonant. It’s so easy to get lost in asking, who am I? How did i get here? Why am I certain way? But when I can sit with the question, “who do I want be? Because I can create myself however I want”, it feels like a much easier approach. The rest doesn’t matter because at this moment I can become that which I choose to be. To embody the emotions of the person that is whom I choose to be. And in doing so, I can just be. The rest follows. ⠀⠀⠀

I’ve been asked quite a bit about whether someone should eat before meditating. Or if meditating on an empty stomach is better or not. My first answer is usually, “there’s no wrong way to meditate”. Doing it any way is better than no way. In the yogic practice, the asana, or the physical practice, was intended to stretch out the body and get all the kinks, tightness, misalignments, etc, that can happen while sleeping or throughout the day. It was done so, so that when one sat to meditate, there was less discomfort to distract the mind. It’s the same with the Ayurvedic practice; it’s the foods that would cause the less discomfort. And they change with the seasons and your dosha - body type.
So I say, I think meditating on an empty stomach is probably a good thing. Unless you’re going to be so distracted by how hungry you are. Being an avid practitioner of fasting, my morning meditations are my favorite. I get a light yoga stretch on, I drink some water, I say my thank you’s, set my coffee on a really slow drip, and then I sit in a fasted state to meditate. In peace. And in love.

While the brain sleeps, it clears out harmful toxins, a process that may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's, researchers say. .⠀
The process is important because what's getting washed away during sleep are waste proteins that are toxic to brain cells, This could explain why we don't think clearly after a sleepless night and why a prolonged lack of sleep can actually kill an animal or a person.⠀

So why doesn't the brain do this sort of housekeeping all the time? Scientists think it's because cleaning takes a lot of energy. "It's probably not possible for the brain to both clean itself and at the same time [be] aware of the surroundings and talk and move and so on.” - Dr. Maiken Nedergaard⠀
