Great having visit us this past month! She is a final year medical student in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. She has previously joined us on trips in Vietnam and her visit coincided with our Director of Vietnam operations who was here for a brief visit as well. So glad to have you all here and see a bit of the US. We learned a lot from you as well and eager to see where your future goes!

Hot off the press!! This article will be in the January issue of . We review our outcomes of alveolar bone grafting comparing autologous iliac crest, synthetic HA/TCP and rhBMP2 showing that this may be a viable alternative. This work was pre-dated by some pre-clinical animal studies I conducted at 17 years ago while as a postdoctoral research fellow! This may lead to reduced patient morbidity in the future!

A great morning to have our cleft team annual CME workshop. Lively discussion to challenge norms using data on the use of arm restraints, nasal conformers, antibiotics, and tongue stitches for post op care for patients with cleft. Also phenomenal talks on ERAS protocols from Kim Strupp from our anesthesia team as well as how to improve feeding and nutrition from our OT and dietician teams. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Great way to kick things off in Kyoto at the 15th international cleft congress! Got a jump on the day by going early to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, a kaiseke lunch at Giòn Matayoshi, seeing friends from around the world at the welcome reception and the highlight of the reception organized by birthday girl Karen Wong Riff!

Virtual Grand Rounds lecture on advances in cleft care to the plastic surgery residents at in Mexico City, an internationally renowned institution with the legacy of one of the founding fathers of craniofacial surgery, Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio.
