March is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, and at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing exceptional care for children with CP, spasticity and related conditions.

For children living with these conditions, the selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery can be a life-changing procedure. Our multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive care tailored to each child's needs, bringing together pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, neuroradiologists, as well as physical therapists and occupational therapists, to deliver advanced, personalized care.

We are honored to support The Graeme McDaniel Foundation and their mission to unite the community by sharing Graeme's story, celebrating heart babies, supporting heart families and raising funds for life-saving congenital heart defect research. Dr. Damien LaPar and Dr. Holly Bauser spoke at the event and our Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and UTHealth Houston team loved connecting with everyone at our booth. 💚

Thank you to the Texas A&M Baseball for visiting our patients and spending time with them. Our patients had the opportunity to design cleats that the players will wear in games before shipping them back to the patients who created them, making this a truly special experience. 💚

When Aimee and Jeremy Abbott learned they were expecting twins, the excitement was instant. At 17 weeks, however, Aimee’s doctor in Louisiana discovered that one of the twins, Drake, had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). CDH is a serious birth defect in which the diaphragm does not form correctly.

Aimee’s doctor immediately recommended transferring her care from Louisiana to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston due to the affiliated team’s experience in CDH care and the comprehensive program offered to patients.

When Melanie Allen went in for her routine 20-week anatomy scan with her husband, Andy, she expected to see their healthy baby boy growing strong. Instead, the couple learned that their son, Link, had congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a rare, life-threatening condition.

Their local physicians explained that although several hospitals in Dallas were closer to home, none matched the CDH specialized care approach available at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Our patients and families had a very special visit from former NFL players, who went room to room delivering baskets through Super Baskets of Hope. The organization thoughtfully creates and customizes age appropriate baskets with toys, games, crafts and other fun surprises for hospitalized children. Caregivers also received a tote filled with items designed to nurture and support them physically, mentally and emotionally during their child's hospital stay.
