Our NICUs celebrated the holidays with two very special friends—Mr. and Mrs. Claus!
Patient safety is just as important to Santa as it is to our NICU team. To protect our most vulnerable patients, Santa’s suit was specifically modified to follow our infection control protocols.
Through this initiative, we are continuing our hospital’s commitment to safety while providing unforgettable holiday experiences for the families we serve.

Maddox, now 15, has spent much of his life navigating complex medical challenges, but his story is one of joy, resilience and community. At 19 months old, he was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and received care at the Children’s Neuroscience Center at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was supported by a team of specialists including pulmonologists, neurologists and therapists.

As the parent of a medically fragile child, Vanessa rarely left her son’s side, and self-care was not a priority. During one of Maddox’s hospitalizations, she mentioned to her hairstylist friend that she needed a haircut, a simple comment that sparked an idea. If she felt this way, other parents must too. And that’s when Maddox’s Mission began—an event created to give hospital caregivers a chance to receive self-care and connect with others who understand the challenges of long-term hospital stays.

Nafil was like any other 5-year-old, vibrant and energetic. However, his mom, Anita, noticed he had trouble breathing during physical activities and struggled to sleep through the night. They met with Dr. Zi Yang Jiang, a pediatric otolaryngologist (also known as an ENT specialist) affiliated with Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.

When Dr. Jiang examined Nafil's nose using a camera, he found that Nafil's adenoids were severely inflamed and blocked. After trying steroid nasal sprays, they decided to move forward with surgery.
