Rebekah had always dreamed of having twins, so when she and her husband, Patton, learned they were expecting triplets, they were shocked and excited about their journey. Triplet pregnancies carry higher risks, which became real when Rebekah went into preterm labor at 29 weeks and was diagnosed with preeclampsia. Her C-section was scheduled for 32 weeks and five days and she made it exactly to that point, where she delivered at Memorial Hermann Memorial City with the support of her dedicated maternal fetal medicine team.

“The coordination of care among the neonatologists, therapists and nurses helped us feel supported every step of the way and gave us the confidence we needed as new parents of triplets," Rebekah said.

When Laura and her husband, Daniel, learned they were expecting, they were thrilled. However, during a routine OB/GYN visit, they received unexpected news that their baby had a congenital birth defect called gastroschisis. Laura’s pregnancy was now considered high-risk, and her care was transferred. The couple soon met Dr. Tsao, Chief of Pediatric Surgery at UTHealth Houston and co-director of The Fetal Center at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, who would perform baby Kyla’s lifesaving surgery.

Sixteen years later, Kyla returned to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital to play her violin as part of her Music is Medicine club.

Jan. 23 is designated as Maternal Health Awareness Day, a time dedicated to raising awareness of maternal health and safety. In recognition of this day, the women's team at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital organized an informational booth to help promote maternal health. From fetal and high-risk pregnancy care, to midwife services, from obstetric emergency care to tours, classes and more, we are here to support you.

We understand that maternal care can be difficult to receive which is why we work with the March of Dimes to help deliver health services to underserved populations in Harris County. The Mom & Baby Mobile Health Center serves as a medical resource for women and babies.

When Valeria was 13 and 16 she experienced a pounding, pulsing headache that would last for hours. Around the time she was turning 18, she had another episode that was associated with weakness that would reveal the root cause of her issues.

Valeria was rushed to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital where they determined she was having a spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage, or brain bleed, an extremely rare condition caused by a rupture of abnormal blood vessels in her brain known as an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Our NICUs celebrated the holidays with two very special friends—Mr. and Mrs. Claus!
Patient safety is just as important to Santa as it is to our NICU team. To protect our most vulnerable patients, Santa’s suit was specifically modified to follow our infection control protocols.
Through this initiative, we are continuing our hospital’s commitment to safety while providing unforgettable holiday experiences for the families we serve.
