Did your doctor tell you the pill will fix all your period problems? perhaps they told you it would help manage perimenopause?

Sure, the synthetic hormones will mask your symptoms. But it’s not getting to the ROOT causes. So meanwhile, the underlying issues are getting worse, & eventually need to be addressed.

Ex: inflammation, mineral imbalances, gut infections, hormone imbalances, toxic overload, metabolic syndrome, nutrient deficiencies etc.

Synthetic hormones also shut off your natural hormones & disrupt biological processes in the body which depend on the natural rhythm of your estradiol & progesterone.

⚡️Newsflash, hormones aren’t just *optional*. Our body needs them to thrive.

Here are just a few of the reasons why I don’t recommend relying on hormonal birth control (HBC) to fix your hormonal symptoms, like acne, cramping, heavy bleeding, headaches, and more:

❌ HBC robs your body of nutrients by blocking your body’s ability to absorb them (b vitamins, selenium, zinc, magnesium, etc). These nutrient deficiencies can cause further symptoms, such as chronic fatigue, migraines, and much more.

❌ HBC impacts s*x hormones & often permanently- SHBG (s*x hormone binding globulin) regulates how much active hormones are found in our blood and HBC has been found to elevate SHBG, sometimes permanently. The higher the levels of SHBG, the fewer free hormones we have to use, leading to fatigue, low libido, vaginal dryness, brain fog, anxiety & more.

❌ HBC harms gut health by causing imbalances in the bacteria making up your micribiome, creating the perfect storm for overgrowth, pathogens, parasites, and yeast. As a result, you’re left with: weight gain or loss, IBS, bloating, increased food sensitivities, and all other types of digestive disorders.

❌ Synthetic hormones impact mental health & have been shown to increase the risk of anxiety & depression.

Too many women are told their labs are “normal” when they are indeed not. They are then referred to a fertility clinic for procedures not even needed, like IUI & IVF.

✋Before rushing to the fertility clinic, make sure you’re getting the correct labs & using functional ranges.

Patterns I often see holding back my clients from getting pregnant are nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, insulin resistance, iron overload, low thyroid , & Hashimotos. Once we resolve these they get pregnant naturally.

It’s not magic it’s just restorative reproductive medicine. Imagine that.

to me

I was put on the pill just shy of 15 to “treat” painful periods & ovarian cysts. I suffered for years from negative side effects.

After a decade of being on it, I got off & it took me a year to ovulate again.

I then had large ovarian cysts, one of which almost cost me my life after it ripped off a piece of my o***y & I almost hemorrhaged to death while backpacking in Thailand. Luckily the doctors saved my life & o***y.

When I sought advice from my local OB when I returned home to the US, he told me my only option was to take the birth control pill. When I asked for other options he said I didn’t have any.

I knew deep down in my bones there had to be a better way.

And I was right.

After supporting my body with the right diet, lifestyle, & addressing imbalances discovered with the right functional labs, I’ve been birth control free for almost 15 years & THRIVING.

I no longer get ovarian cysts, my ovulatory cycles are like clockwork, & I even conceived a baby boy naturally at 37 (something my doctors told me growing up would most likely be impossible for me!).

Please know that you’re more than just a birth control prescription.

👋🏼 Comment THRIVE below & I’ll DM you the link to watch my free masterclass The Period Fix, so you can learn how to balance your hormones & regulate your menstrual cycles without the pill.

This is 40!

As I recap the year a few things come to mind that I’ve learned.

1. It’s not that you win some lose some.

It’s that God sometimes answers your prayers by giving you what you ask for, and other times he answers your prayers by not giving it to you and/or giving you something better.

2. Motherhood is the greatest gift and parenting is the biggest teacher. And it’s simultaneously the sweetest thing and hardest thing in the world.

My 30s were bittersweet. I traveled the world living abroad for the first 3 years of it, I was widowed, lived in Italy, became a mom to the best boy in the world, and met my now husband who is the most incredible partner & father.

I’m SO ready for what this new decade brings. ❤️

It’s that god sometimes answers your prayers for giving you what you ask for, and other times he answers your prayers by giving you something different.

Real talk. Most people stress out WAY too much about what they eat during the holidays, when in fact, it’s more important what you eat the rest of the year!

Eating extra sweets and drinking a bit more bubbly for a few weeks over the holidays is not going to make you fat and sick, just like eating one salad isn’t going to make you fit and healthy and give you healthy hormones and periods.

This whole healthy living thing is a lifestyle, not a quick fix diet fad. So while you’re enjoying your travels and holidays, I recommend grounding yourself with your baseline routines that keep you resilient and healthy.

Most of these have to do with keeping blood sugar balanced, and our circadian rhythm balanced (wake, sleep cycle).

🔥Here are non-negotiable daily routines that never leave my side, no matter what day it is.

1. Start my day with 20 ounces of warm lemon water, with 1/4 tsp of sea salt, and half a lemon. This hydrates me first thing in the AM and helps balance my minerals for healthy energy and blood sugar balance throuhgout the day. The lemon also stimulates the liver and helps with bile flow, which will assist with detox and digestion.

2. Magnesium- I take this in the morning and the evening as it improves insulin sensitivity, is a co-factor in detoxification (especially estrogen detoxification!), it helps regulate digestion (hi healthy poops!), improves sleep, and reduces anxiety (like from that extra anxiety from your fav aunt’s annoying questions).

3. Daily walks- taking a walk within the first 2 hours of waking will help stimulate cortisol production for energy through the day, and increase melatonin production at night for good sleep. Walking also serves as a glucose disposal agent, which makes walking after meals an excellent tool to balance blood sugar after eating!

Happy Holidays everyone!🎄

I’m on a mission to make my methods even more accessible which is why I created my digital on demand course: The Period Solution.

(⚡️On sale for Cyber Monday for just $97! Comment PERIOD below to get the link!)

So if you’re ready to have your first period in years without popping those pesky painkillers, drowning yourself in caffeine to give you more energy, or breathing fire from the depths of within… you should sign up and see what your new, non-fire breathing dragon lady life could look like.

🌟The hacks I use have helped THOUSANDS of women turn their agonizing periods into painless events. And now it’s your turn!

❌Now, believe it or not, your periods are NOT supposed to be painful and heavy. The fact that they are, means there’s a deeper issue within the body we need to heal.

❌You are also not meant to deal with intense mood swings that cause strain on your relationships or uncomfortable bloating that prevents you from feeling comfortable in any of your clothes the week leading up to your period.

And that acne that loves to make an appearance right before your cycle? We can get rid of that, too!

💡Symptoms are simply your body’s way of letting you know there’s something out of balance which is why it’s SO important not to mask them with synthetic hormones, painkillers, fad diets, and all that jazz.

✅Instead, we need to get to the ROOT cause. How do we do that? Using a combination of functional nutrition, cycle syncing, and a holistic lifestyle.

Simple. As. That.

“But where the heck do I even start, Jenna?” I hear you ask.

If you’ve suffered from recurring pregnancy loss I’m sorry for the pain you’re going through. It’s harsh. There’s no way to sugar coat it.

🤷🏻‍♀️So what to do next?

Unfortunately there is no magic supplement & most likely IUI or IVF won’t be the fix you’re looking for either, since your issue is not getting pregnant, but staying pregnant. So please don’t waste your money on expensive fertility treatments without first addressing the root cause.

RPLs are usually a cause of one or more of the following :

(👋🏼Before we dive in, have you downloaded my Free Fertility Checklist? Comment LIST below & I’ll send it to you!)

1. EndomeTRITIS or endometriosis. Have you had a hysteroscopy &/or endometrial biopsy yet?
2. Reproductive immunology issues (have you had an autoimmune blood planet yet?
3. Structural issues- have you had a saline ultrasound yet?
4. Low thyroid &/or progesterone . Have you had both tested? And not just TSH you need the whole panel . TSH, Free T3, Free T4
& antibodies & a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA)to make sure you aren’t thyroid cell resistant!

Please don’t give up. You’ve got this 🙏🏼

Did you know that females are prone to a hyper alert social nervous system due to our abundance of estrogen?

Our first perception of safety comes from what is called the social nervous system. This is actually the newest branch of the nervous system to be discovered. The social nervous system was designed to let us know if our environment is safe!! It starts when scanning peoples faces to perceive if we are safe or not safe.

As females, due to a more abundant amount of estrogen than males, we have a hyper alert social nervous system. This allows us to bond better (especially with our children which is the primary purpose) We are literally physiologically hardwired to care more about connection and bonding than men!

But because of this it also puts us at more risk to fit in, people please, or fawn! Saying yes to baking 100 cupcakes for the school event even though your schedule is fully loaded? Saying yes to the doctor when they make advice that doesn’t align with your beliefs? Freezing like a deer in headlights instead of saying no to advances that you’d rather not have.

This is why with any hormone healing plan, nervous system work is imperative. It can’t be ignored .

For a truly integrative approach, nervous system work is key. The body will never heal if it doesn’t feel safe. Nervous system work also allows us to establish stronger boundaries and advocate for ourselves.

Something you can start doing daily to nurture your nervous system? Get outside and put your feet on the grass, sand, or dirt! Look out and scan your horizon. With connection to the earth we receive negative ions that calm us. Bonus if you take some deep mindful breaths in the process.

So many of my clients come to me after recurrent pregnancyloss, &/or spending $20K–$30K on multiple failed IVF or IUI rounds-feeling defeated. 💔

And every time, I see the same issue: major gaps in fertility testing.

❌ No full thyroid panel
❌ No inflammatory markers
❌ No uterine microbiome testing
❌ No iron panel

Yet, clinics are quick to recommend another round… and another. 😩

Before you spend thousands again, ask yourself:

👉 Have I optimized my fertility first?

Check for:
✔️ Autoimmunity
✔️ Infections
✔️ Thyroid + gut imbalances
✔️ Male factor issues
✔️ Nutrient deficiencies

I don’t believe in “unexplained infertility.” It just means no one’s looked deep enough.

The communication between the top down process from the Hypothalamus to the ovaries (HPO Axis) to ovulate is a delicate one, and takes a few years to regulate.

This is why it's common (and normal!!) for teenagers to experience menstrual cycle irregularities the first few years they are ovulating.

❌The absolute worst thing one can do for their daughter if they are experiencing PCOS like symptoms, heavy periods, painful periods, irregular periods, PMS, acne, etc is to STOP the process or ovulation regulation with hormonal birth control.

🔊Hormonal birth control will not FIX the problem, it will just SILENCE the symptoms.

Furthermore, it will rob your daughter of crucial nutrients, minerals, and hormones needed for optimal health. It will also wreak havoc on her microbiome most likely resulting in digestive issues and later on even autoimmune disease. It could also impact her future fertility.

Plain and simple, the pill puts us at more risk for depression and autoimmune disorders.
