Did your doctor tell you the birth control can lead to depletion of the following:
Vitamins B2, B6, B12
Magnesium,
Zinc
Folate
Selenium
CoQ10
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
It also disrupts the beneficial gut flora in your microbiome leaving you more prone to gut infections.
It’s no secret that I am a huge advocate for hormone-free birth control options (👋🏼to learn more about birth control options comment YES below & I’ll DM you the link to my Birth Contol 101 free training).
However, if you’ve decided that the pill is the best contraception option for you, here are 3 ways you can best counterbalance these nutrient deficiencies & gut imbalances.
1️⃣ Prenatal- Birth control can cause leaky gut, which prevents your body from absorbing all nutrients from food. It’s crucial to take a multivitamin to meet daily nutrient requirements. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is. PS Don’t buy the $10 bottle at CVS. Cheap supplements are loaded with fillers and synthetic vitamins. I love for a high quality prenatal.
2️⃣B Vitamins- Hormonal birth control depletes your body of B vitamins in your body. B vitamins are necessary for the thyroid function, immunity, and detoxification. And whatever you do, stay away from folic acid. Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate, which is hard for the body to process.
3️⃣Fermented Foods- Eat at least 2-3 servings of fermented foods daily. Your body depends on your gut to remove excess hormones, which is why it’s vital to keep your microbiome healthy. Hormonal birth control has been shown to disrupt gut flora, which allows for an overgrowth of bad bacteria. Eating fermented foods will help keep your microbiome balanced.
