Perhaps you have had an IVC filter implanted in your body because your doctor believed you were at risk for a pulmonary embolism. Most of the IVC filters (a tiny metal cage with very thin “spider” legs) placed in patients are retrievable IVC filters—yet it is estimated that less than a third o...

I wanted to thank those of you who have been so attentive in following our information regarding Testosterone Replacement Therapy Heart Attack lawsuits. With the litigation on those particular medications nearing a close, I wanted to shed light on some medications that have been recently associated with an increased risk for Heart Attacks and other cardiovascular events - namely the Gout medication Uloric, and the Diabetic Drug Onglyza. Please read the article I have linked below to learn more about the Gout Medication Uloric, and how the FDA recently mandated a change to its warning label.

The FDA recently released a sdrug afety communication for Uloric, a gout medication manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this safety communication, the FDA had notified the public they were evaluating Uloric for possible connections to an increase risk of heart-related deaths. After a mo...

A huge number of men taking a testosterone drug in the United States have not even had their testosterone levels measured; the FDA’s approval of testosterone drugs is only for men who make too little of the hormone on their own, leading to a condition known as hypogonadism as well as men with endocr…

Testosterone Replacement Companies are still advertising on television without warning for heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, or other cardiac issues. Please note that the central issue in this potential litigation is that these drugs may cause all of these events and the manufacturers are not warning the people taking the drugs.

I asked a very well known and respected urologist specializing in hypogonadism about when individuals should consider and not consider Testosterone Replacement Therapy. It was his opinion that individuals with T Levels 300 and under would potentially be considered for treatment. It was his opinion that individuals with T Levels in the 300's would be borderline cases and could go either way. Individuals 400 and above would likely not feel any effect from TRT treatment and he would likely not prescribe treatment. These are good numbers to know when you speak to your urologist about TRT treatments.

In a recent discussion I had with a urologist specializing in men's health issues, this doctor articulated that the recent studies stating there was a correlation between Testosterone Replacement Drugs and heart attacks, strokes, and death may be flawed as to how they determined the actual statistics and percentage of persons effected. Specifically, the exclusion/inclusion in the control group of individuals with previous cardiac incidents he felt would dramatically change the outcome of the study. I will have more information on this with specifics soon.

Following the FDA's announcement that they would be conducting a safety review of Low Testosterone Replacement Products, one advocacy group has petitioned the FDA to have a black box warning for potential risk of heart attacks. The black box warning is considered one of the most serious warnings that can be placed on a pharmaceutical drug. It was suggested that this warning should be added to several Low Testosterone products such as Androgel and others.

Around 3% of men under the age of 40 would be diagnosable as having low testosterone. The normal levels of testosterone in the blood vary depending on age. The range is usually between 300ng/dL and 1000ng/DL. The average levels for males are about as follows:

On May 2, 2011 Abbott Labs received FDA clearance for its version of testosterone gel known as Androgel. Androgel requires a prescription. It is believed that Abbott Labs and many other pharmaceutical companies target the 13 million American men thought to have low testosterone levels. As of 2011, only about 1.3 million of these men were actually being treated. Between 4th quarter 2012 and current, Androgel has been either #1 or #2 in sales rankings ahead of all other testosterone replacement treatments. They have been averaging $325,000,000* and $350,000,0000 in sales each quarter since mid 2012. I am not sure how motivated a drug company would be to investigate potential side effects of their product if they were making over $1 billion a year on it. *Financial data is obtained from Drugs.com website on Androgel Sales Data.

Before prescribing Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT), the doctor's guidelines require that blood be drawn from the patient two different time. The draw should occur in the morning before any food is eaten by the patient so that the level of testosterone can be measured accurately. T levels will typically drop throughout the day and may drop considerably after eating depending on the content of the meal. Many times, these doctor's guidelines are not followed which may have caused many men to potentially receive TRT when it was not necessary. The long-term risk of TRT are still not known. Make sure you are taking TRT after the correct testing.
