Our programming provides oral health care through Project Saving Smiles, vision screening, and eyewear through See to Succeed, access to fresh produce and nutrition education with our community gardens program as well as STD screenings at our Hip-Hop for HIV concerts. We also play a key role in ensuring families receive the support services they need to create safe and healthy environments for children to live in through our AIM initiative.

1/3 of 2–8-year-olds experience dental caries in their primary teeth, and 14% experience untreated tooth decay. When children suffer from dental hygiene issues, it not only affects their physical health, but also their mental health and confidence. The Project Saving Smiles program works with students unable to access dental care. Over 97,000 children have been screened, and over 170,000 dental sealants and 64,963 fluorite varnishes have been provided.

Initiated by the American Dental Association (ADA) in 2003, the first Friday in February marks Give Kids a Smile Day!

With the purpose of providing free, high-quality dental services and education to children in need, the Project Saving Smiles (PSS) program aligns with this initiative. PSS partners with greater Houston area school districts by providing free dental screenings to identify and address oral health issues.

According to the ADA “cavities are the most common chronic disease of childhood in the United States”. Give a kid a smile by supporting our programs.

Seventh grade student Juan V. from Pilgrim Academy was the lucky winner of a brand new bicycle through the See to Succeed holiday raffle.

See to Succeed team members delivered the bike to Juan's school and surprised him with it just before the Christmas break. He was ecstatic! Upon receiving the bike, Juan mentioned that he had a bike at one point, but no longer did, and said “I feel like the luckiest kid in the world” .

The bike was generously donated to See to Succeed for the raffle by The University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO), the American Optometric Association, and CooperVision USA. The UHCO Residents constructed the bike. Many thanks to all who made this possible!

Happy New Year from the Houston Health Foundation! 🎇

Give children the gift that lasts a lifetime: good health.

Many of our favorite holiday memories were formed in childhood — twinkling lights, shared meals, big dreams, and bright smiles. A feeling of security, comfort and well-being are central to those joyous moments.

At the Houston Health Foundation, we work year-round to make a healthy start in life possible for children and families across our community. Through programs like The Basics Houston, See to Succeed, Project Saving Smiles, My Brother’s Keeper, and Community Family Gardens, we help children grow, learn, see clearly, smile confidently, and thrive - today and for years to come. This year, we have helped over 20,000 children get a healthy start through these programs.

Your year-end gift will help ensure that more children enter the new year healthier, stronger, and ready to create joyful memories of their own.

Make a difference this season. Join us in the spirit of giving by investing in the health of local students — our future. Thank you for being part of our community and our mission. 💙

December is Safe Toys & Gifts Month. 🧸 🎁 ✅

Toddlers and young children learn and make sense of the world through play. That means we all need to ensure their environment and toys are safe and age-appropriate. Educate them on safe play, in age appropriate ways, so their experiences are fun and safe.
