What is Praetorian Disaster Supply, and how can it help the consumer?
The creation of Praetorian was inspired by a largely ill-equipped public after numerous natural disasters like Hurricane Ike, and Katrina which resulted in substantial flooding, thousands of deaths, and an economic impact in the billions. Praetorian’s core belief is, “The only leverage anyone has against disasters is preparedness.”
Praetorian is a wholesaler of disaster related products, with a particular emphasis on flood mitigation and defense. Experience as first responders has afforded us unique and valuable experience in disaster and flood mitigation.
Praetorian is dedicated to presenting the most effective products to our customers; our products are manufactured to specific specification so that they can be depended on during critical emergencies.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked for 33 years in as a First Responder in Law Enforcement and attended The University of Memphis, and West Texas A&M University's Emergency Management Administration degree program. I have organized and mobilized resources during several catastrophic Hurricanes and Tropical Storms that struck Houston Consolidated Statistical area (Allison, Rita, Gustav, and Ike etc.). I have completed numerous courses in Risk Management, and hold several FEMA certifications in crisis and incident management.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
After experiencing several devastating hurricanes and tropical storms that effected literally millions of people and their property, we realized that sometimes calling 911 is not an option, and those that depend on the government the most are often the ones that suffer the worst. We also realized 75% of the 30 Billion dollars spent annually on flood damage in the U.S. is from flood waters less than 3' and insurance covers only 20% of that cost, leaving many Americans financially devastated.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initially, we interview the customer to determine exactly what type of problem they are encountering, they are asked specific questions, like (1) have you experienced invasive flood damage in the past, (2) how long ago, (3) how much water inches, feet etc. (4) was the damage caused by seepage, or dynamic moving waters, (5) do you reside near a source of water, i.e., pool, ditch, bayou, channel, creek, lake, river, pond, ocean. (6) Have you ever fell victim to "ponding" or a collection of storm water on streets or on undeveloped land that typically forms when rainfall occurs exceeding the design capacity of a streets drainage system or exceeding the lands ability to drain. These questions determine their level of need and probability of future flooding potential. It also determines, if in fact, we can be of assistance, because in certain situations we advise our clients in the event of catastrophic flooding to evacuate.

Homeowners who have previously suffered the damaging effects of flooding, business owners that wish to maintain continuity of operations, and resiliency to catastrophic flood events, County Governments, and Emergency Services.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Be ready to discuss in detail the type of flooding event that you have had, or are attempting to defend against at a later date.
