Some recommendations are influenced by compensation — not what’s best for you or your family. Be sure to ask questions and remember: The right professional will welcome transparency.
The wrong one will avoid it.

What does “independent” really mean?

Many professionals describe themselves as “independent.”

But that doesn’t always mean unbiased.

It may mean:

• They are not tied to one company — but still receive commissions
• They may represent multiple options — but not all options
• Compensation can still influence recommendations
• “Independent” is often a marketing term, not a guarantee

Before making a decision, ask:

“How are you compensated, and does it change based on what I choose?”

The answer should be clear and direct.

Because independence means nothing without transparency.

Dementia caregivers, we know taking on this lifetsyle is not easy. At times, you may feel as though you’ve failed. You are not failing, dementia is unpredictable. Showing up requires patience, strategy, and empathy. Don’t let the daily challenges overshadow the overall breakthroughs and harships you’ve overcome.

Many professionals who work with older adults are paid by companies for referring you to their services.

That means:

• They may only show you options that pay them
• Higher-paying options may be prioritized
• Some of the best options may never be mentioned
• You may not be told a referral fee is involved

This doesn’t mean every referral is wrong.

But it does mean you should ask:

“Do you receive compensation for recommending this?”

If the answer isn’t clear and upfront, that’s a problem.

Transparency isn’t optional when families are making major decisions.

🚫 When selling your home, avoid “Pocket Listings” or any other method that reduces the exposure of your home to potential buyers.

Did you know some agents keep homes “off the market” to limit exposure, often to benefit themselves? They are called pocket listings, agency exclusive listings, or a similar term. . These pocket listings can:

Reduce competition and lower offers 💸

Limit your home’s visibility online 🌐

Increase the risk of unethical practices ❌

Work with a trusted, vetted professional who follows ethical standards and fully markets your home to get the best value.

How it all began...

It all began with a desire to help common folks in need of finding the best place to live their golden years. The desire came as a result of personal experience trying to find a suitable place for my loved ones. The information available on websites, online search engines (mis-information as i call it) did not mate with what i found in reality while visiting places of interest. Almost always online reviews are biased, either written by paid reviewers or disgruntled persons. None of what i saw was impartial and objective assessment of needs. People i met at communities were more interested in telling what they can offer; no one really paid attention to what the actual needs were. Everyone was trying to sell!

So drawing on my professional background as a market research analyst, i began to do my own assessment, drew various evaluation metrics, created a checklist to rate each community based not only on what they currently offer but also what they have done in past few years and where are they are headed as an organization. The key was not what the communities or providers offer but what my actual needs are in short term as well as long term and how best we can match. I was able to come up with a nice holistic evaluation & assessment of each community of interest and resident needs .

The process i developed is more of an art than a science because it is based heavily on emotional and personal aspects of individuals. Yes, the health care situation is important but at the same time a person’s emotional needs must also be considered and addressed.

I decided to use the knowledge gained and help others who are stuck not knowing which community or provider is best for their individual need. I offer this service free of charge to anyone who is in a real need of crystallizing their thought and reach a decision.
