Blood Clot Symptoms Sugar Land Texas | DVT Warning Signs Houston

Most people in Sugar Land and Houston think blood clots are painful—that's not always true. As a vascular surgeon in Sugar Land, Texas, I see patients wait too long because they're waiting for sharp pain that never comes.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) symptoms that aren't always painful:

Heaviness or pressure in one leg (feels like a pulled muscle)
One-sided leg swelling
Tightness or fullness in the calf or thigh
Barely noticeable discomfort

Pulmonary embolism (PE) symptoms beyond chest pain:

Sudden unexplained fatigue
Shortness of breath
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Racing heart or palpitations

When to get checked in Sugar Land or Houston:
After surgery, long flights, pregnancy, bed rest, or prolonged sitting—if you notice new, one-sided, or unexplained symptoms, don't wait it out.

Trust patterns, not pain. Early detection of blood clots saves lives.

This is what arterial plaque looks like—cholesterol and calcium deposits that harden and clog leg arteries over time, causing peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in Sugar Land and Houston patients.

For this patient with critical limb ischemia and non-healing wounds, I performed:

1. Femoral endarterectomy: Surgically removed hardened plaque blocking the femoral artery to restore blood flow

2. Femoral to below-knee popliteal artery bypass: Created a new blood flow route around the blocked superficial femoral artery (main leg artery)

Result: Improved circulation to promote wound healing and prevent amputation

PAD doesn't just cause leg pain—it leads to tissue loss, wounds, and gangrene when left untreated. If you have non-healing leg wounds, rest pain, or claudication in Sugar Land or Houston, early intervention can save your limb.

This is an inferior vena cava filter, a device placed in the biggest vein in the body. Its purpose is to decrease risk of blood clots traveling from the leg to the heart in those patients who can’t take safely a blood thinner. I like to retrieve these filters in 4-6 weeks.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in Sugar Land and Houston patients often signals blockages beyond just the legs. As your vascular specialist in Sugar Land, Texas, I want you to understand why PAD screening is critical for preventing heart attack and stroke.

PAD symptoms Houston residents should recognize:

Claudication: leg pain when walking short or long distances
Rest pain: constant foot pain at night requiring legs to hang down for relief
Non-healing foot ulcers or wounds
Tissue loss on feet or toes

Why PAD is a serious warning sign:
Patients with blocked leg arteries in Sugar Land often have blockages in:

Coronary arteries (heart)
Carotid arteries (brain)

This means PAD increases your risk for stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular death.
If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or smoke—get screened for peripheral arterial disease in Sugar Land or Houston today. Early detection saves limbs and lives.

PAD warning signs you can't ignore: leg pain when walking, cool/pale feet, non-healing wounds. Left untreated → gangrene → amputation. If you have diabetes, smoke, or have high BP—get screened. Early intervention saves limbs. 🚨

Real case: 75-year-old with sudden shortness of breath → PE with right heart strain → minimally invasive clot removal through the leg (no general anesthesia!) → home safe. This is why early detection matters. If you have shortness of breath, chest pain, or palpitations—don't wait. 🫁❤️

30% of PE patients don't survive the first month. Here's how we fight back with advanced clot removal techniques that save hearts and lives. 🫀

Why I don't just "wait and see" with big clots. 🛑

For extensive Deep Vein Thrombosis (Iliofemoral DVT), blood thinners alone often aren't enough.

I take an aggressive approach with Venous Thrombectomy. By physically removing the clot burden now, we save the valves and drastically reduce your risk of chronic Post-Thrombotic Syndrome later. It’s about investing in the future of your leg.

Do you know the DVT Red Flags? (Swelling, Pain, Warmth). Save this post as a reminder. 🚩

The clot is gone... so why does your leg still hurt? 🤔

It’s called Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS), and it happens to 50% of patients after a DVT.

Because the clot damages the delicate valves in your veins, you are left with chronic swelling and heaviness. While the first line of defense is compression socks, sometimes the deep veins (Iliacs) are permanently blocked and need to be opened up.

Don't just live with the swelling—get a venogram to see the full picture.

Have you noticed lasting swelling after a clot? Tell me your symptoms below. 👇

The Cascade of Complications. 📉

Bypass failure. Amputation. Infected graft. This is the brutal reality of advanced Peripheral Arterial Disease in chronic smokers.

To save this patient, we had to remove the infected graft, use antibiotic beads, and perform a muscle flap reconstruction. We threw the "kitchen sink" at this infection just to get her to heal.

If you needed a sign to quit smoking... this is it. 🚭
