This World Cancer Day, we honor children and families around the globe facing cancer and remember those we’ve lost. We know every child is unique, and every childhood cancer diagnosis is deeply personal. We also know how different childhood cancer is from adult cancer.

That’s what inspired the launch of Kinder Children’s Cancer Center, a joint venture of UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children's Hospital focused on ending childhood cancer.

Made possible by a $150 million gift from Kinder Foundation, Kinder Children’s Cancer Center will be the largest and most comprehensive cancer center in the country focused solely on children when it begins operations this spring.

Ethan Perry loved playing sports, creating inventions and playing violin in his middle school orchestra.

Shortly after he turned 12, he was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma. He passed away eight months later.

Now, Ethan’s parents, Angie and Brian Perry, are finding hope in the launch of Kinder Children's Cancer Center a joint venture of
UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children's Hospital focused on ending childhood cancer.

Made possible by a $150 million gift from Kinder Foundation, Kinder Children’s Cancer Center will be the largest and most comprehensive cancer center in the country focused solely on children just like Ethan when it opens in spring 2026.

“We believe Kinder Children’s Cancer Center will change how childhood cancer is treated,” says Angie. “That will provide hope to patients and families everywhere.”

Today marks the end of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, but the need for cures and new treatment options doesn’t end for the 400,000 children and adolescents around the world who are diagnosed with cancer each year. That’s what inspired UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children's Hospital to team up to launch Kinder Children’s Cancer Center, and it is what will drive our team every day as we work to end childhood cancer.

Tomika Gamble knows firsthand what it’s like to find out your child has cancer. When her son, Isaiah, was diagnosed with pleural pulmonary blastoma at age 3, her family put their trust in the doctors at Texas Children's Hospital. Today, Gamble works for UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and is looking forward to the launch of Kinder Children’s Cancer Center and the hope it brings for other families facing cancer.

“I'm so excited to see this greatness,” she says.

As we honor children and families facing cancer and remember those we’ve lost, we also know every child – and every cancer diagnosis – is unique and deserves personalized care and treatment options.
