I'm on my way. My graduation ceremony is December 12th. Graduating from the University of Houston - Downtown. I'm going to wear all of my honors and first-generation sholes. I can remember when I first started attending college in 2008, I told myself that I wasn't college material because I struggled in a few classes. When I graduated from El Camino College in 2014, I wanted to further my education.

I DID IT!!! I'm going to give my brain a rest for a while before starting the Master's program in social work. I want to thank all of my support team for your encouragement, love, and support to help me through it.

This is so sadđź’”

This is Nuckie last message. If this touched Facebook… I’m gone.” 🕊️

Nuckie Sylvester’s final words weren’t just a goodbye — they were a testament to her fight. A young mother of 3, only 23 years old, who loved the color pink and believed in raising strong, emotional, beautiful boys who weren’t afraid to wear it.

She posted one last time, a love letter to those who truly saw her:

“My favorite colors are pink n black 🩷🖤!! I want my sons in all pink 🥹 real men wear pink n they will be REAL MEN. idk where I am, but I know I was tired!! I love eb, who loved me 🥰 i made it to 23 with 3 kids. If this touched Facebook, im gone 🕊️”

And now… she’s gone.

Depression doesn’t always scream. Sometimes, it posts a soft pink heart. Sometimes, it shows up in celebration. But behind the emojis was a soul screaming for rest.

Let this break your heart and open your eyes.

đź’” Check on your strong friends.
đź’” Check on your smiling friends.
đź’” Check on the moms, the single moms, the ones raising babies while silently carrying the weight of the world.

Her babies now have to grow up without her. We failed her. Society failed her. Silence failed her.

May Nuckie Sylvester rest in the peace this world never gave her. 🕊️🩷🖤

Please don't suffer in silence. Please know that YOU are not alone and that YOU are not fighting this battle alone. You're in a community that understands what feels like to suffer from depression and/or has had those suicidal thoughts. I want to understand and tell yourself that giving up or quitting is an option. Yes. It's hard, and this road isn't easy, BUT holding it inside is not good. If you are having suicidal thoughts, please don't hesitate to reach out to me for support and contact the su***de hotline. They're available 24/7. Please believe me when I was going through it and attempted to take my own life, I reached out to the su***de hotline. It gave me comfort with me wanting to admit myself into a mental hospital to help me get the proper care and treatment that I needed to survive and heal. I am still here sharing my story, my trails, and my triumph. Let's break the stigma.

This semester I've been elected and sworn in as President of the Psi Chi international honors society today at University of Houston - Downtown. I'm in my last and final classes for fall. I am so excited and looking forward to walking across that stage in December 2025. Although I had brain aneurysm surgery the day before Fall 2023 semester started, I was so determined to finish what I started. Giving up is no longer an option and my faith to keeping pressing, being a blessing to others is my gift and victory.

We are a community to help educate, encourage, motivate, cultivate, and inspire others and ourselves to live a healthy mental lifestyle by setting healthy boundaries and taking it one day at a time. Never be afraid or ashamed to NOT be ok. Seek professional help to get the proper care, treatment, and tools to help you deal with these conditions. What you are facing is real, and your feelings are valid. I am a true testimony when it comes to wanting to give up, receiving the care that I needed to survive and heal, and was able to overcome some challenges that I thought I would never get over. My advice to you is be willing to make choices to take the first step, forgive yourself for the pain that has happened in your life (current situations as well), acknowledge that what you are dealing with doesn’t define who YOU are or you future, and believe that you can heal even when it seems impossible. Remember, YOU are NOT alone in this fight. If you need resources on where to start your healing journey, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or call your local resource line 211.
