Noticing more leg swelling in the heat? You’re not imagining it.
Warmer temperatures cause your blood vessels to expand, which can make it harder for blood to circulate efficiently back to your heart. That can lead to fluid buildup — especially in your legs and ankles.
Common causes of summer swelling:
• Heat + humidity
• Standing or sitting for long periods
• Dehydration
• Underlying vein issues
The good news — there are simple ways to help reduce it.
To help prevent swelling:
• Stay hydrated
• Move throughout the day
• Elevate your legs when you can
• Avoid long periods of sitting or standing
• Consider compression if recommended
If swelling is persistent, painful, or new, it’s worth getting evaluated.
