💙🎉 Thank you for celebrating with us in Pasadena!

Legacy Community Health is grateful to everyone who joined us for the grand opening of the Legacy Pasadena Southmore Clinic. It was a special day filled with community, connection, and excitement as we officially opened a space designed to serve Pasadena families for many years to come.

The celebration brought together neighbors, community leaders, partners, and Legacy team members to mark the opening of a new two-story clinic offering primary care for adults and children, OB/GYN, behavioral health, imaging, and supportive services, all in one place.

This clinic is the result of planning, collaboration, and a transformative partnership with Houston Methodist, including a historic investment supporting new health facilities in both Pasadena and Acres Homes.

Legacy Pasadena Southmore represents more than a new building. It reflects Legacy’s commitment to expanding access to affordable, compassionate care and meeting people where they are, regardless of insurance or ability to pay. Thanks to strong partnerships and years of planning, Pasadena now has a new healthcare home built with the community in mind.

We’re thankful to everyone who helped make this milestone possible and to those who came out to celebrate with us. We’re excited to begin welcoming patients and continuing to care for families across Pasadena.

💙 We look forward to seeing you at the clinic and continuing to grow together as a community.

🍼💙 Protecting your baby starts with knowing what to look for.

Cases of congenital syphilis are increasing, but the condition is preventable with early testing and proper care during pregnancy. When syphilis is identified and treated early, it can help protect both parent and baby from serious health complications.

Our latest blog explains what congenital syphilis is, how it can be passed from parent to baby, and why routine prenatal screening and follow up care are so important. It also shares what expecting parents can do to protect their pregnancy and where to find support.

At Legacy Community Health, we’re committed to making sure families get clear information and compassionate prenatal care, regardless of insurance or ability to pay.

💙 Black maternal health is a crisis, and it’s one our community cannot ignore.

At Legacy Community Health, our OB/GYN teams see firsthand how deeply the Black maternal health crisis affects mothers, babies, and families across Houston. In Harris County, Black mothers continue to face the highest maternal mortality rates in the country, and most pregnancy related deaths are preventable.

Dr. Erica Giwa, Medical Director of OB/GYN at Legacy, often emphasizes that improving maternal health starts with examining how care is delivered. Too often, symptoms can be overlooked or concerns not addressed quickly enough, which why Legacy’s approach to maternal care is built around listening, acting early, and staying connected before, during, and after pregnancy.

From prenatal navigation and postpartum checks to extra support for higher risk patients, Legacy teams work to make sure no mother falls through the cracks, especially during the postpartum period, when risks can remain high.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we’re sharing what Legacy wants you to know: safe, respectful, and responsive care saves lives, and it should be accessible to everyone.

💻🧠 Working from home has its benefits, but it can also impact your health.

A recent Defender Network article features Wellness Manager, Felicia Sexton White, who shares important insights on the hidden health risks that can come with remote work. From increased stress and isolation to long hours of sitting and blurred work life boundaries, these challenges can affect both physical and mental well being over time.

Felicia encourages remote workers to stay mindful of their health by building routines that include movement, connection, and regular check ins with themselves and their care teams, even when the office is at home.

We’re thankful to the Defender Network for continuing to highlight conversations that help our community stay informed and supported.

Women’s heart health deserves more than one month of attention ❤️🩺

American Heart Month may have passed, but heart health is something women, especially Black women, think about every day. High blood pressure continues to affect Black women at higher rates, often with fewer opportunities for early diagnosis and treatment. That’s why Legacy Community Health keeps the conversation going year-round and brings education and screenings directly into our clinics.

High blood pressure often develops quietly, without symptoms, yet over time it can lead to serious health complications. Many women are also surprised to learn how closely diabetes and high blood pressure are connected. When both are present, they can place extra strain on the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels, making early awareness and care even more important.

Knowing your numbers, building healthy routines, and staying connected to care can make a meaningful difference. Legacy’s care teams are here to provide information, screenings, and compassionate support that empowers women to take charge of their health.

Your heart works hard for you every day, caring for it should feel just as important.

💙👶 Supporting moms, babies, and families, together.

Legacy was proud to join the March of Dimes Mama Talks event once again, connecting with families and sharing resources that support healthy starts and strong futures. During the event, we welcomed 34 families and distributed essential items to help meet every day needs.

Thanks to our team and generous partners, families received:

🛍️ 200 bags of shelf stable food,
🧸 200 bags of diapers and wipes, and
💜 100+ additional packages of diapers and wipes, donated by the Delta Sigma Theta Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter.

Beyond supplies, our team shared information about Legacy’s clinics and programs designed to support parents and caregivers, including:

✅ Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes focused on children’s growth and milestones
🔗 https://www.legacycommunityhealth.org/ecd/

✅ Becoming a Mom (BAM), offering education and support during pregnancy and early parenthood
🔗 https://www.legacycommunityhealth.org/public-health/becoming-a-momcomenzando-bien/

We also shared state Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) resources and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developmental milestone information to help families feel informed and supported.

Because caring for families means more than one visit, it’s about showing up with resources, education, and compassion every step of the way.

To our donors, partners, and collaborators: your support makes these connections possible and helps build healthier, more resilient futures across the communities we serve.

High blood pressure often gives no warning — and it’s putting Black women at serious risk. 💙🩺

High blood pressure affects many Black women, often without noticeable symptoms. Even when you feel fine, hypertension can quietly strain the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels over time. That’s why Legacy Community Health continues to raise awareness and bring health education and screenings directly into our clinics, especially during moments like American Heart Month.

For women living with diabetes, the risk of high blood pressure is even higher. When these conditions show up together, they can make it harder for the body to stay healthy. The good news? Early care and small daily habits can make a meaningful difference.

Ways to support your heart and overall health
🥗 Choose meals that help keep blood sugar steady
💧 Drink water throughout the day
🚶🏾‍♀️ Move your body in ways you enjoy
😌 Take time to rest and manage stress
🩺 Stay on top of regular checkups and screenings

Legacy’s care teams are here to help Black women understand their risks, ask questions, and take steps that support long term health. You deserve care that listens and empowers you.

🥦🌱 Healthy communities start with access, education, and connection.

Legacy Community Health joined community partners and health advocates at the Houston Food Bank and Kinder Institute’s Community Health Summit: Discover the Power of Nutrition. The event brought together people across Houston who are working to improve health by addressing nutrition and other everyday challenges families face.

Legacy’s William Lyons, Senior Manager of Social Drivers of Health Programs, shared how improving access to nutritious food and addressing social needs can play a powerful role in supporting long term health for individuals and families.

These conversations highlight an important truth: health is shaped by more than doctor visits. Having access to healthy food, education, and strong community partnerships helps people feel better, manage chronic conditions, and thrive.

💙 We’re proud to work alongside organizations across the region who are committed to strengthening community health and supporting families where they live, learn, and grow.

💊💙 Pharmacy care is about more than filling prescriptions, it’s about people.

At Legacy, our pharmacy teams work closely with patients to make sure cost, insurance challenges, or transportation don’t get in the way of staying healthy. That’s why we’re proud to highlight Kevin Aloysius, Legacy’s Director of Pharmacy Operations who recently was featured by the PAN Foundation for his work helping patients access the medications they need.

Kevin and his team know that paying for prescriptions can be stressful. By connecting patients to financial assistance programs and helping coordinate care, they make it easier for people to stay on track with their treatment and focus on feeling better.

For patients managing chronic conditions, this kind of support can make a meaningful difference, helping prevent health emergencies and bring peace of mind.

💙🥦🩺 Helping kids with diabetes build healthy habits that last.

As seasons shift, it’s a great time for families to refocus on everyday routines that support children living with diabetes. Nutrition and kidney health work hand in hand, helping kids keep blood sugar steady, feel energized, and support their growing bodies.

Healthy food choices don’t just fuel play and learning. They also help protect the kidneys, which work hard every day to keep the body in balance, especially important for children managing diabetes.

🌟 Simple, kid‑friendly habits that make a difference:

• Choosing colorful fruits and vegetables
• Drinking water throughout the day
• Staying active through play and movement they enjoy
• Building balanced meals and snacks
• Keeping up with regular checkups and screenings

At Legacy, our pediatric teams partner with families to create routines that fit real life, supporting diabetes management while still letting kids be kids.

💛 With the right support, children can grow up feeling confident, healthy, and active all year long.

💙 Screening saves lives and it starts with a conversation.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and all month long, Legacy Community Health has been hosting community tabling events in our clinics to talk with patients about colorectal cancer prevention and screening.

Colorectal cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the U.S., but when it’s caught early, it’s highly treatable, with survival rates as high as 90%. The challenge is that many people don’t get screened because the disease often shows no early symptoms.

Through our tabling events, Legacy teams are sharing information, answering questions, and helping eligible patients access no cost at home screening kits, making prevention easier and more accessible.

📍 Our final tabling event takes place today, March 31, 2026, at Legacy Baytown Garth.
If you’re 45 or older, or just want to learn more about screening options, this is a simple step that can make a big difference for your health.
