"I believe that sometimes the universe knows what your purpose is before you do, and the most important thing is to keep working hard through all the twists and turns that come your way. You have to trust that it’ll work out and you have believe in yourself and what you’re doing, or nobody is going to believe you.
I never imagined myself as an owner of an art gallery. That seemed like something fancy people with art degrees did, not 26 year olds. But growing up in Venezuela, my life was always surrounded by art and it’s always been something that’s very important to us as a family. My mom would always tell the story of how when her and my dad bought their first apartment (my sister was 5 and I was a couple of months old), they bought a piece of art before buying any furniture. Art is that important to us. Naturally, my parents passed that passion down to my sister and me.
After 15 years living here, my mom, my sister and I had a vision to share the culture and intimacy of Latin American art with Houston. We didn’t let ourselves be intimidated by the fact that none of us have a degree in art, have worked in an art gallery, or have opened a business before. We believed in each other and in what we wanted to do. So we just went for it! Every day I get to work with the two most inspirational women I know, my mom and my sister, and we get to help these amazing, incredible artists share their work in Houston, and sometimes the US, for the first time. Opening this gallery has been the scariest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done."
