Making hot chocolate with your child is a great opportunity to practice using plural “-s”. Try giving your child choices instead of asking YES/NO questions.

👍"Do you want 1 scoop of chocolate or 2 scoops?"
👍"Do you want 1 marshmallow or 2 marshmallows?"

👎"Do you want a scoop of chocolate?"
👎"Do you want more marshmallows?"

Bonus: Tell your child: "Ask your brother if he wants 1 scoop or 2 scoops?"

🦷Let's clear things up! Most children say /f/ correctly around the age of 3. If a child isn't saying this sound correctly by their 4th birthday this is a helpful indicator that a child MAY need speech therapy. Yet, it's NOT the only indicator. A speech pathologist also considers the following:

🤷Speech clarity/ intelligibility: How much of your child's speech is understood by an unfamiliar listener?

⛹️‍♂️Consistency of speech sound errors: Does your child typically substitute the same speech sound for /f/ in all /f/ words (fish, elephant, leaf)?

🗣️Number of different speech sound errors. More speech sound errors often make it more difficult to understand a child's speech.
