Sunday afternoon Howells was dispatched to smoke in the basement of a house. Upon arrival car 1 located a basement filled with smoke. Squad 111 arrived and advanced a hand line as a precaution while crews entered to locate the source of the smoke. Ladder 113 arrived and laddered the building while the tanker was prepared to supply water to the squad if needed. Crews located a boiler fire in basement and secured the boiler and ensured there was no extension and ventilated the house. The fire police and brush truck controlled traffic in the area while crews operated. Thank you to our mutual aid for the assistance on scene Middletown Fire Department Wawayanda Fire Company - Slate Hill Fire DepartmentPocatello/ Mount Hope Fire Co.

What an incredible day for Howells Fire District and our entire community. Today, was not just a Groundbreaking, it was the first step in building the future of public safety, community service, and hometown pride.

This new firehouse will be more than a structure of bricks and steel. It will represent our dedication, our resilience, and our shared commitment to protecting the lives and property of every family in Howells.

For generations, our Howells Firefighters have stood on the front lines—answering every call, no matter the hour, no matter the risk.

Our firefighters are more than first responders. They are neighbors, mentors, coaches, and everyday heroes. And now, they will have a new, modern facility that reflects the level of service they give so selflessly every single day.

This groundbreaking marks a new chapter—a place where future firefighters will train, where lives will be saved, and where our community will continue to come together in times of need and celebration.

We’d like to thank everyone who made this day possible, our construction teams, architects, engineers and especially the members of the Howells Fire Company #1, past and present. Your hard work, sacrifice, and dedication are the reason we’re standing here today.

So today, with this ceremonial turning of the soil, we plant the seeds of safety, service, and strength.

Now, let’s build something great—together.
