Paul Smith II

Paul Smith II, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth Mercy Health in Youngstown on April 14. He was born March 16, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Paul V. and Ella Mae Jagger Smith.

Paul was a lifelong resident of Hubbard and a proud 1975 graduate of Hubbard High School. Paul lived with a joyful spirit and a deep love for people and community. He spent many happy hours at the Hubbard Public Library and the Youngstown library, places he greatly enjoyed visiting.

Faith was central to Paul’s life. He was an active member of Chestnut Ridge Church in Hubbard, where he faithfully served alongside his late sister, Dawn, in the children’s ministry, especially during Vacation Bible School. Paul also volunteered with the church’s Financial Ministry during their monthly sub sandwich sale and was a longtime member of the church choir.

Paul had a special love for Broadway musical theater. He and his sister Dawn could often be found attending performances at local theater’s, and in later years Paul delighted in supporting the children of families he loved—his many “adopted” nieces and nephews—as they performed in their own productions. He was also known for his quirky sense of humor and his contagious laugh, which could brighten any room. Paul had a lifelong affection for the Muppets—especially Miss Piggy—which never failed to make him smile and share that joy with others.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul V. and Ella Mae Smith, and his beloved sister, Dawn P. Smith.

He leaves behind many cousins, including members of the Powell family, as well as numerous adopted nieces and nephews, dear friends, and his loving church family who meant so much to him.

Even in death, Paul’s generous spirit continued, as he gave the gift of life through organ donation with Lifebanc.

Paul will be remembered for his kindness, his joyful heart, his laughter, and his faithful service to God and others.

Friends and Family may call on Saturday April 18, 2026 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at The Chestnut Ridge Church of God. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM at the church.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return.”

— 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (NLT)”
