Today is my 57th post after being told, ‘you have cancer’.
It’s unimaginable those 3 words could have the impact they do. There is no way.
No possible way THREE words could change someone’s life. Nope.
Yet, they do. Receiving those 3 words, then mentally digesting the ‘ME?’ ‘Wait, I have WHAT?!’
The ‘what does this mean?’, the ‘will I even be here next year’ panic that no anxiety pill ever created can calm - changes everything about what you thought was important into NOT.
You go to every appointment. Every test. Every scan.
You do what you’re told. Without pause.
Nothing in your universe that once was will ever be the same.
You WILL view LIFE from an entirely different perspective.
It can’t be explained, no author could accurately describe the changes those 3 words shot directly at you will impact your life.
For me, it is a perspective of living, informing and helping.
Offering a hand. An ear. Advice.
Take those unimaginable 3 words you had to swallow & do some good with them.
Inform. Remind. Insist. Repeat. This is my mission, my directive.
I informed, reminded, insisted and then repeated, week after week:
Guys, if you’re over 40 years old, get your PSA tested.
IT'S A BLOOD TEST. IT’S EASY PEAZY.
IT JUST MIGHT SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Call your doctor & find out WHAT YOUR PSA LEVEL IS.
The ACTUAL NUMBER.
A level of 5 or higher could mean prostate cancer.
DO NOT shrug this test off.
Trust me PLEASE: you do NOT want to go thru what I went thru.
Early detection is VITAL.
Now, the REALLY cool part:
15 months since surgery and 8 months post radiation & hormone therapy injections -
Yesterday morning 3 very different words from my radiation oncologist: “PSA is excellent.”
Followed by,
“These are the best results we can hope for at this time.”
Then, wait for it..... oh, it gets even better:
“I would consider you without evidence of disease.”
Trust your friend Rick on this: Tomorrow wants you around.
PLEASE guys,
Make the appointment.
NO EXCUSES.
