The Scams Targeting Seniors

"Grandma, I'm in trouble. I need money."

The voice sounded just like him. But it wasn't.

Scammers are getting frighteningly good at exploiting the love and trust of our seniors. They prey on the instinct to help family, to act fast, to protect the people we care about.

In our latest Good Grief Podcast episode, Sheriff Scott Knutson shares real local stories and practical steps families can take to protect their loved ones. It's an eye-opening conversation we think every family should hear.

Listen on our website or your favorite podcast app. And share it with someone caring for an aging parent, as it could save them heartache and money.

What do you do when there’s an error on a monument?

It’s frustrating. It’s expensive. And it’s one of those things we wish we could fix more easily.

If you’ve ever faced this, you’re not alone. And if you’re working on monument details now, take your time. Double-check everything. Sleep on it if you need to.

Some decisions really are set in stone.

You'll find our name on buildings in five communities across western Wisconsin.

But you'll also find us at school events, resource drives, and community gatherings. Because this work isn't just about the services we provide. It's about showing up for the people we call neighbors, long before and long after we're needed.

That's what it means to be rooted here.

Growing up in a funeral home means you get used to curious questions.

Some are thoughtful. Some are... unforgettable.

"Have you seen a dead body?"
"Just one?" I'd say.

And then there was the person who asked if our crematory doubles as a baking oven.

I promise—those are two very different things.

People are curious about what we do. And honestly? That's okay. Death is unfamiliar to most people until it touches their life directly.

So we answer the questions. We share the stories. We help people understand that behind the mystery is just... care. Respect. And a family doing meaningful work.

What's a question you've always wondered about funeral homes? We're here.

For generations, we've been the neighbors you call when life gets hard. The ones who show up, listen without rushing, and help your family honor what matters most.

We're not going anywhere. And when you need us, we'll be right here. 🤍

Do you want to honor a veteran's service meaningfully? Try asking what their service meant to them while they're still here.

Now the reasoning for this is not what you think.

It's not just about the ceremony or the flag presentation. It's about the stories that won't be in any official record. The friendships. The moments of fear and courage. The person behind the uniform.

We've coordinated hundreds of military honors, and the families who find the most peace are the ones who knew these stories firsthand.

Veterans deserve tributes that reflect their full lives, and not just their service, but who they were because of it.

If you ever have questions about veteran services or how to plan ahead, we're here.

Last night, neighbors gathered not to forget, but to remember together.

Our annual Valentine's Remembrance Event brought families into the same room (some just weeks into grief, others years down the road) to share stories, create a heart wall, and honor the love that doesn't end.

Jill and Emma guided us through the evening with gentleness and grace. There were tears. There was laughter. There was permission to feel it all.

If you've been carrying your grief alone, you don't have to. Events like this remind us: love continues, and so does community.

Thank you to everyone who trusted us with your stories last night. 🤍

Valentine's Day can feel complicated when you're grieving. Here's what we want you to know

You don't have to pretend this day feels easy. Love doesn't stop when someone dies, and neither does the ache of missing them.

Many families tell us Valentine's Day brings up unexpected waves. The missing card. The empty side of the bed. The love that's still here with nowhere to land.

Here's what helps:
• Honor the love that's still present (write them a letter, visit their favorite place)
• Let yourself feel it all (love and loss live together)
• Create a small ritual just for you two (their favorite meal, a meaningful song)
• Know that loving them still counts, even if they're not here

You're allowed to struggle with a day that celebrates what you've lost.

And you're also allowed to feel love, because grief is just love with nowhere to go. You're not alone in this.

Listen, I don't know who's lying to you but planning a funeral does feel overwhelming.

You just have to learn how to make it feel less so.

My solution to that? Start with one decision.

Not all of them. Just one.

Burial or cremation. That's it. Everything else flows from there.

We've guided hundreds of families through this, and the ones who find the most clarity are the ones who give themselves permission to take it one step at a time.

You don't need to have all the answers today. You just need to know you're not doing this alone.
