Spring can be complicated when you're grieving.

Everyone talks about renewal and fresh starts, but what if you're not ready? What if the world coming back to life just reminds you of what you've lost?

You're allowed to feel that. You're allowed to struggle with a season that everyone else celebrates.

Stress Awareness Month reminds us that grief and stress are deeply connected. The pressure to "move on" or "feel better" because the weather's nicer? That's real. And it's exhausting.

Take your time. Rest when you need to. Reach out if it helps. This season won't last forever. And neither will this feeling.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to celebrate the ways our team gives back to the community we call home.

Destiny, a member of our O’Connell Funeral Home family, volunteers at Willow River State Park each month helping clean up trash and keep our local spaces beautiful. It’s just one small way she’s making a big impact.

We believe caring for families goes beyond what we do every day — it’s also about caring for our community and the places we all share. Thank you, Destiny, for helping make our corner of the world a little brighter this Earth Day (and all year long)!

We often think cemeteries are places of loss, but they're really places of love.

Every name tells a story, every visit keeps a promise. Sometimes, the quietest places hold the loudest reminders of what matters most.

If you've been avoiding a visit because it feels too hard, know this: there's no right way to remember. Some people visit every week. Some once a year. Some find peace in other ways entirely.

Grief is just love with nowhere to go. However you choose to honor that love, it counts.

Families don’t fall apart because they don’t care.

They fall apart because they don’t know what you wanted.

This episode explains why even the closest families can struggle without a plan—and how pre-planning changes everything.

For generations, we've been the neighbors you call when life gets hard.

The ones who show up, listen without rushing, and help your family honor what matters most.

We're not going anywhere. And when you need us, we'll be right here.

This isn't just a business. It's a legacy of care that's been passed down through our family for decades. Tom, Dan, and Mike aren't just funeral directors. Emma's helping families with preplanning. They're your neighbors. The people you see at the grocery store, at church, at community events.

Because we're not apart from this community. We're part of it.

Not sure what type of service feels right?

There’s no one way to honor someone you love. We’ll walk you through every option... traditional, cremation, memorial, or something uniquely theirs.

Listen, I don't know who's lying to you but planning a funeral does feel overwhelming.

You just have to learn how to make it feel less so.

My solution? Start with one decision. Not all of them. Just one.

Burial or cremation. That's it. Everything else flows from there.

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day. If you've been putting off the conversation about preplanning, this is your gentle reminder that one decision today can lift the weight from your family tomorrow.

We've guided hundreds of families through this, and the ones who find the most clarity are the ones who give themselves permission to take it one step at a time.

Even those trained to protect us aren't immune.

Sheriff Scott Knutson and our own team have been touched by scams, and the financial devastation they leave behind is staggering.

There's no magic fix. Just education, awareness, and looking out for each other.

Growing up in a funeral home family taught me things most people don't learn until much later in life.

How to sit with someone in pain without trying to fix it. That grief doesn't follow a timeline or rules. How to have hard conversations without fear. That showing up matters more than saying the right thing.

These weren't lessons from a book. They were learned at the dinner table, watching my parents care for neighbors during their hardest days.

Now I see what a gift that was. The ability to hold space for grief, to speak openly about death, to lead with empathy instead of discomfort.

Friends helping friends. Neighbors serving neighbors. That's the O'Connell way.
