3 signs you can benefit from chiropractic (and they have nothing to do with back pain). πŸ’š

SIGN #1: Short fuse. Small things set you off. You snap, you're irritable, you can't calm down. Everyone says "just relax" but you CAN'T.
Your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight. Your vagus nerve (the main "calm down" nerve) exits at your upper cervical spine - when your upper neck is out of balance, vagus nerve function is compromised and your ability to shift from stress to calm is impaired.

SIGN #2: Shoulders by your ears. Chronic neck, shoulder, upper back tension. Massages help for two days then tension returns.
When you're chronically stressed, your body takes a protective posture - shoulders elevate, neck tightens, you're bracing for impact even at your desk. Forward head posture creates upper cervical imbalance, which affects vagus nerve, which makes it harder to calm down, which creates more tension.

SIGN #3: Can't handle stress like you used to. Things that didn't bother you now feel overwhelming. Exhausted but can't sleep. Anxious but can't calm down. Small stressors feel like major crises. Your nervous system has been running on fumes so long it's lost resilience. Stuck in sympathetic overdrive with no ability to downregulate.

If you checked even ONE box, you can benefit from chiropractic.
All three signs point to the same root cause: nervous system dysregulation.
And nervous system regulation starts with brain-body balance.

Your short fuse isn't a character flaw. Your tight shoulders aren't just from "stress." Your inability to handle stress isn't weakness. It's your nervous system stuck in survival mode - often caused by spinal imbalance blocking your body's ability to regulate.

Chiropractic supports nervous system regulation through specific, intentional adjustments. We help your body remember how to downregulate.

When your nervous system is supported: Your fuse gets longer, your shoulders drop, stress feels manageable, you can be present and best of all, you feel like yourself again.

You might be thinking that plantar fascitis is just a foot issue, but did you know that your plantar fasciitis didn't start in your foot? It started in your lower back.

You've tried orthotics, better shoes, stretching, foot massages, rest.
Nothing lasts.
Here's why: You're treating the symptom (foot), not the root cause (spinal compensation).

Your feet are at the END of the kinetic chain. Everything above - ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, spine - affects how they function.

The compensation cascade:
Lower back misalignment β†’ Nerves from L4-S1 control your feet. When lumbar spine is misaligned, nerve signals are disrupted, muscle imbalances develop, arch collapses, plantar fascia compensates and inflames.

Pelvic tilt β†’ One leg appears "shorter," you bear more weight on one foot, that foot develops pain. Orthotics can't fix the pelvic imbalance creating it.

Hip dysfunction β†’ Gait compensates, feet work harder, abnormal forces break down tissue.

Knee issues β†’ Altered walking mechanics, feet bear weight abnormally, chronic stress.

Your foot is just the last domino to fall.
Why treating just the foot doesn't work?
Orthotics support the arch but don't fix why it's collapsing (nerve interference).
Better shoes cushion but don't address compensation pattern.
Stretching provides temporary relief but spine keeps pulling it back.

How chiropractic addresses root cause:
βœ“ Lower back adjustments restore nerve flow to feet
βœ“ Sacral/pelvic alignment eliminates leg length discrepancy
βœ“ Hip adjustments restore proper gait
βœ“ Full kinetic chain assessment identifies where compensation started

When we fix the pattern UP THE CHAIN, foot pain resolves DOWN THE CHAIN.

Stop focusing on stretching and rolling out your foot. It's time to address the body as a whole.

Nobody wants to talk about bedwetting after age 5, but so many families are dealing with it in secret.

You've tried everything. Limiting drinks after 6pm, waking them up twice a night, pull-ups they hate wearing, reward charts that make everyone feel bad when they don't work.

Your pediatrician says "they'll grow out of it" while you watch your child's self-esteem crumble with every wet sheet.

They're refusing sleepovers, camp, overnight trips. Carrying shame for something they literally cannot control.

Your child is not lazy and they're not doing this on purpose. Their nervous system physically cannot send the signal from their bladder to their brain during sleep.

Bladder control - especially nighttime - is controlled by nerves from the lower spine (L2-L4) and sacrum. These nerves tell your child's brain when their bladder is full during sleep so they can wake up.
When the lower spine or sacrum are out of balance (from birth trauma, learning to walk and falling hundreds of times, sports impacts, growth spurts), those nerve signals don't transmit properly. The bladder fills, but the brain doesn't get the message.

This is not a behavior problem. This is a sign of nervous system dysfunction.

Imagine your child waking up to dry sheets, consistently, saying yes to sleepovers without panic in their eyes. They are able to go to camp without you packing pull-ups. The relief on their face, confidence coming back, shame lifting.

We've had kids stop bedwetting within 2-3 weeks of starting care. Lower back and sacral adjustments restore nerve signals in which brain-bladder communication starts working. Bedwetting resolves naturally.

Your child deserves to sleep without shame. They deserve a nervous system that works the way it's supposed to.

We are about to challenge something you've been told is essential for baby sleep.
Swaddling.
Arms pinned tight.
Legs straight.
"Babies need it to sleep." "It's the only way to prevent the startle reflex."

But here's what they're not telling you: Every time you restrict your baby's movement, you're restricting their neurological development.
Right now, your baby's brain is forming neural connections at a rate that will never happen again.
And what drives that process? Movement, sensory input, touch, and pressure. The feeling of their arms and legs moving through space is good for neurological development.

Every time your baby reaches, grasps, kicks, stretches - neural pathways are forming, brain-body connections are strengthening, and their nervous system is integrating sensory information that literally builds their brain.

Swaddling stops all of that.

Arms pinned means no reaching, no grasping, no self-soothing.
Legs straight means no natural hip movement, no proprioceptive feedback.

And the startle reflex? It's supposed to be there. It's a primitive reflex that should naturally integrate as your baby's nervous system matures. When you restrict it, you're not allowing it the opportunity to integrate.

"But my baby won't sleep without being swaddled."
I hear you.

Babies who "need" swaddling usually have nervous system dysregulation - often from birth.

The tight wrap isn't fixing their sleep problem- it's masking their nervous system dysregulation. When we address that through gentle adjustments - releasing birth trauma, supporting their nervous system - sleep improves naturally, without restricting the movement their developing brain desperately needs.
Imagine your baby sleeping peacefully with arms free- self-soothing and their brain developing optimally because you gave them the gift of free movement.

You don't have to trade development for sleep.
There's another way.

Close your eyes for a second and notice your shoulders right now. Are they up by your ears? Is your upper back tight? Are you clenching without even realizing it?

"Carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders" - we say it casually. But your body doesn't know the difference between metaphor and reality.

When you're carrying emotional weight, your shoulders literally hold it.
When was the last time you felt truly relaxed? Shoulders-dropped-down, breathing-deeply, jaw-unclenched relaxed? If you can't remember, you're not alone.
It's because your nervous system has been in fight-or-flight for so long that muscle tension has become your baseline.
Life stresses you out, your nervous system perceives threat - not a bear, but your brain doesn't distinguish between "actual danger" and "overwhelming stress." So it activates fight-or-flight response. Your body braces. Upper traps pull shoulders up. Shoulder blades pull forward. Neck tightens. You're taking a protective posture, ready to fight or run, even though you're just sitting at your desk. This was designed to be temporary. But when "threat" is constant (chronic stress that never resolves), your shoulders never get the signal to release.
They stay tight day after day and month after month.
You get massages- feel amazing for two days, then tension screams back. This is because massage released the muscle, but your nervous system is still in fight-or-flight.

Imagine waking up one morning and your shoulders feel light. You can take a full, deep breath without restriction.
You're not bracing for impact anymore.
That's what we're after. Upper neck adjustments support your vagus nerve - the nerve that tells your body it's safe to calm down. We help your nervous system shift out of chronic sympathetic mode so shoulders can finally release.

Your shoulders are trying to tell you something. They're holding stress you haven't processed, the worry you can't control, and responsibility you're carrying alone.

What would it feel like to put it down?

Do you notice changes in your kids behavior at this time of year? You aren't imagining it. This time of year can be really hard on some kiddos especially as the season is changing. 🌸

If your sweet kid is suddenly melting down over EVERYTHING - wrong color cup, socks that "feel weird," leaving the park - welcome to spring nervous system chaos.

Here's what's happening:
Daylight Saving Time disrupted their circadian rhythm. Sleep deprivation = dysregulation = tantrums.

Temperature fluctuations (70Β° one day, 40Β° the next) - their bodies are constantly adapting. Regulation requires stability. Spring is chaos.

Longer daylight = more stimulation = harder to wind down = overtiredness.

Seasonal allergies create inflammation even in kids without diagnosed allergies. Histamine = irritability.

Routine changes - more outdoor time, different activities.
Toddlers thrive on routine. Spring disrupts it.

Sensory overload - brighter sun, louder birds, new textures, different smells. OVERWHELMING.

Your toddler isn't being "bad." Their nervous system is overwhelmed.

How chiropractic helps:
βœ“ Regulate stress response so they adapt without constant fight-or-flight
βœ“ Support sleep by addressing spinal tension
βœ“ Immune support - regulated nervous system = less histamine reaction
βœ“ Sensory processing support (brainstem is where filtering happens)
βœ“ Build resilience through seasonal transitions

What else can support their little bodies?
Morning sunlight, consistent bedtime, outdoor play, co-regulation (you staying calm), reduce sugar, patience.

Your toddler isn't broken. Spring is just a lot for their developing nervous system.
Get them adjusted + regulated this season with Croixview Family Chiropractic.

That shooting, burning pain down your leg that takes your breath away, makes you gasp when you stand up, keeps you awake at night and makes walking feel impossible?
Everyone says "it's just pregnancy - you'll have to deal with it until baby comes."

But here's what's actually happening:
Your pelvis is shifting to make room for baby. Relaxin hormone is loosening your ligaments (making joints more mobile but less stable). Baby is growing and creating pressure on nerves.

Your lower back is compensating for your changing center of gravity. Your sacrum (tailbone) is adjusting position for birth.

And in all of this shifting and compensating, your sciatic nerve is getting compressed.
The sciatic nerve runs from your lower back, through your pelvis and glutes, down your leg. When your pelvis is out of balance or baby is positioned in a way that creates pressure, that nerve gets irritated. This results in shooting pain down your leg, numbness, tingling, burning.

The good news?
You don't have to just suffer through this.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy isn't just safe - when done by someone trained in prenatal care, it's ESSENTIAL.

What we address:
βœ“ Pelvic balance (Webster technique) - keeps pelvis aligned as it shifts
βœ“ Sacral positioning - reduces nerve compression
βœ“ Lower back support - addresses compensation patterns from changing body
βœ“ Round ligament tension - reduces pulling and discomfort
βœ“ Optimal baby positioning - balanced pelvis = more room for baby

What pregnant mamas tell us:
"The sciatic pain was so bad I could barely walk. After two adjustments, I could move again."

"I wish I had known about this with my first pregnancy. I suffered unnecessarily."

"Chiropractic during pregnancy was a game-changer. I actually enjoyed the third trimester."

You're growing a human. That's hard enough without excruciating nerve pain.
You deserve to enjoy your pregnancy, not just survive it.
