We have some beautiful goodies this week for our Open House and Spring Sale. Pastries from the one and only Sweet Beet Bakery and Joua put together this beautiful fruit tray. Today is going to be a busy day with people having made appointments for 10% off their cemetery memorial-but we would love for you to stop by and visit with a treat and a cup of coffee. Funeral Directors do so much quietly, behind the scenes. After an 18 hour work day,They get a call right when their head hits the pillow, that someone in their community has passed away. They dress in their suit, and arrive to your home in dignity to take your loved one into their care.

They miss holidays, their children's events, weekends, to serve other families, maybe even your family. They hold grief, compassion, and space for when you are facing the unthinkable and need a steady guide.

To all of our funeral director friends-thank you, for the service you provide. It is one of the hardest careers out there-but you do it with grace and compassion.

We had the loveliest Friday afternoon appt with two daughters honoring their dad. Towards the end of our time, one of the daughters mentioned she wanted to check the score of the basketball game on her phone (local team in the playoffs!) and I said hey, we can put it on our tv! The other daughter joked-well, we need a beer now, I said we have that too! 🤣 so the daughters had a nice cheers to dad, kept an eye on the game and we finished up the monument design.

We are very intentional in ensuring we have a warm, comforting experience, whatever that may mean to you. Just a reminder that in grief, there is no right or wrong way to move through the process-just that you honor your grief as it arises. Grateful for every family we get to meet and serve.

Well, today was the day I FINALLY got to meet the famous queen herself, Josey The Funeral Dog. She didn’t really know that I’ve been her biggest fan for the past 4 years or so. She sniffed and gave approval to the Reflection Stone we made for her dad and his friend Josh, to congratulate them on 100 years of business at Klecatsky & Sons Funeral Home. I told her that i used to work for them back when I was a student, but that was well before she was born.

Josey brings comfort to so many by attending visitations, memorial services and funerals. She’s an angel and I’m so happy to finally have met her!

If nobody has ever told you-grief is individual, and it is NOT linear. I'm actually not a huge fan of the 5 stages of grief as most people know it, because it sets an expectation that if you are not "going in order" you are grieving incorrectly.

When working with families, I like to advise them while all of those stages are very real feelings we can and very well may experience, they may not be in that order, they may come and go, and we may skip one altogether. I've grieved a loss where i'm experiencing 2 or 3 at one time even.
