The word “and,” though simple, can have a meaningful impact on how experiences are processed. It allows space for multiple truths to coexist, supporting a sense of complexity and ongoing growth.

In contrast, the use of “but” can unintentionally negate or diminish what came before it, sometimes leading to feelings of discouragement or invalidation.

Choosing language that connects rather than contrasts can foster a more balanced and constructive internal dialogue.

Therapy is sometimes different than what people expect—and that’s okay. 💬

It’s normal to:
• Feel awkward, guarded, or unsure
• Laugh one moment and feel emotional the next
• Sit in silence while you gather your thoughts
• Revisit the same topic more than once
• Question if therapy is “working”
• Feel relief after one session and overwhelmed after another

Healing isn’t linear, and every session can look different. You don’t have to have it all figured out before walking in. Showing up as you are is enough. 🤍
