Laurel Lake is proud to announce that Greenwood, our Assisted Living Neighborhood at Laurel Lake, has earned a deficiency free Ohio Department of Health survey for 2025! This exceptional accomplishment highlights Laurel Lake’s unwavering commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to our residents. This is a significant rating for families looking for assisted living environments.

Zero deficiencies affirms resident safety and quality care, builds trust with families, and protects the community.

When Greenwood has a “deficiency-free” survey it means that it is operating in total compliance with state regulations regarding the care to residents, services provided and overall environment. The ODH evaluates communities on:

• QUALITY OF CARE
Caring for residents’ hydration, nutrition, medication distribution, wound prevention and care, as well as assistance with activities of daily living.

• QUALITY OF LIFE
How well a community is doing in accommodating residents’ needs, creating a home like atmosphere that values respect and dignity, as well as providing meaningful social and recreational activities.

• COMMUNITY PRACTICES
Assessing a community for its ability to provide comprehensive and compassionate resident care. The ODH evaluates how residents are treated not only physically, but also emotionally.

• STAFFING
Ensuring that a community has the proper amount and type of qualified staff to support and care for residents.

OCTOBER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - Deb Wilson, Dining
Deb Wilson has been a dining server in Laurel Lake’s Greenwood Assisted Living for 18 years. It is always a pleasure sit at one of her tables. She always greets everyone with a big smile and makes them feel at home. Deb takes special interest in how residents are feeling and makes healthy food suggestions if they are unsure of what to order. She has a patient, warm, and kind spirit. Deb really enjoys what she does. She goes the extra mile and in doing so makes meal time a special time of the day. Thank you for your dedication Deb!

RESIDENTS ENJOY FALL TAILGATE
Laurel Lake resident came out to tailgate en masse last week during the beautiful fall weather! The tailgating event, sponsored by The Laurel Lake Foundation, brought everyone out for a bit of fall fun and continued The Foundation’s annual campaign. After grabbing some burgers, brats and hot dogs from the bed of our CEO’s pickup truck, residents picked up sides, Bavarian pretzels, nachos, chili and desserts from the other vehicles. And of course there was beer, wine and cider to wash it all down.

It was a bit of a football and baseball tailgate - as everyone was not only rooting for their favorite and alma mater football teams, but also for the Guardians who were also playing that day.

BLESSING OUR COMMUNITY’S PETS
On Friday, in celebration of the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, Laurel Lake Chaplains Jon Dodson and Lynn Anderson visited Laurel Lake’s homes to bless resident and staff pets. Dogs and cats are by far the most popular, but we also have community parakeets, fish and a few reptiles. Our pet owners celebrated the spiritual connection and emotional bond they share with their animals. They truly enrich our lives and bring companionship and love.

DINING TEAM ADDS FLAVOR TO THE LAUREL LAKE EXPERIENCE
Today, National Food Service Day, we celebrate and thank Laurel Lake’s Dining Department for the awesome work they do! They continue to bring a wide range of excellent food and events to our residents and staff. Dining Director Eddie Mundy along with Kitchen Coordinator Chef Corey Patrick, Dining Manager Trent Musal and Assistant Dining Manager Christal Arsham and their entire team of 50 full-time and about 24 seasonal staffers, provide spectacular service with flair.

Did you know that our Dining Team serves 450 residents at 5 dining rooms throughout the campus every day. In addition to what we all see at the front end, there is so much that happens behind the scenes with meal prep every day. Dining’s devoted and hardworking staff ensure that Laurel Lake residents and staff have delicious high quality meals with friendly service. Sharing meals provides residents valuable opportunities for gathering and socializing with friends and family.

Menus include something for everyone: basic comfort foods like pot roast, stuffed peppers, southern fried chicken, or cheddar broccoli soup; ethnic specialties such as corned beef, stir fry and cabbage and noodles; fresh seafood like lobster tail, oysters on the half shell, crab cakes, and shrimp; pastas like chicken alfredo, lasagna, pasta and mussels in tomato sauce; steaks, prime rib and brisket. Every dinner includes a special chef-prepared entrée and healthy menu choices including lean protein, a gorgeous salad bar, fresh-cut fruit, and gluten free options.

In addition to regular daily meals, our team caters at “Bistro Bash” Nights, Burger Night in the Bistro, special wine tastings, wonderful Sunday and Holiday brunches, seasonal parties, a luau, cookouts, private events, and even occasional “Cooking with Chef Cory” demos. The dining team also provides many additional meal options to Laurel Lake residents - whether they are ordering meals for take out or delivery, having Fresh Ingredient Meal Kits delivered to their doors, or shopping the Colony Shop for tasty “grab-and-go” sandwiches, salads, soups, entrées, snacks, frozen treats and more.

Registered and Licensed Dietitian Matt Frantz supplements our residents’ wonderful dining experiences with educational opportunities to learn about the food they enjoy.

OHIO STATE SENATOR CASEY WEINSTEIN VISITS LAUREL LAKE

Last Friday, in an event sponsored by Laurel Lake’s Informed Citizens Committee, Laurel Lake was privileged to have a visit from Ohio State Senator Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson). Senator Weinstein provided some commentary on the state’s budget, updates on both pending and passed legislation and then took questions from the audience. We thank him for taking time from his busy schedule to join us to discuss current issues and concerns.
