THANKFUL FOR OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE DEPARTMENT
This week, as we reflect on all the things we’re thankful for, we need to acknowledge our Spiritual Life Department led by Chaplains Jon Dodson and Lynn Anderson and their team. Together they minister to Laurel Lake’s residents, families and staff.

Chaplains Lynn and Jon provide one-on-one spiritual comfort, guidance, and counseling. They organize and lead religious services and assist with all types of celebrations. Chaplains Lynn and Jon enrich and support our community with support groups for hearing loss, low vision, care giving, cognitive changes, Parkinson’s disease, and loss. They provide opportunities for growth through discussion groups, Bible studies, and prayer meetings. Chaplain Lynn is also trained in Reiki.

Their team is rounded out by resident volunteers through the Stephen Ministry Program, SandPlay Therapy, as well as representatives from local Hudson churches. Stephen Ministers are lay volunteers trained to provide one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, family concerns, chronic or terminal illness, or relocation. SandPlay is a therapeutic technique that facilitates spiritual healing.

We thank everyone in this great department for their wonderful support!

OUR LAUREL LAKE ELVES HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY!
As you go through our front entrance and the Fireside Lounge, you’ll see a display of all the wonderful items Laurel Lake’s residents have been creating all year long. Both groups work have gone all out to help brighten children’s holidays. All items are donated to Summit County Children Services and Akron Children’s Hospital.

Resident knitters and crocheters have been making all sorts of colorful hats and headbands for Caps for Kids. We don’t have a final count yet, but the hats are completely decorating two 9 foot Christmas trees!

The Wood Shop has made a variety of handmade toys. There are always annual favorites as well as a variety of new toys, puzzles, and games. Our rocking horses have been joined by some rocking zebras and giraffes. The crayon trucks have come out in a variety of models - cement mixers, dump trucks, haulers and semis - while some sweet crayon kitties have been added for the girls.

All items will be distributed to their new homes before the holidays.

NOVEMBER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - Mark DiCenzi, Groundskeeping Coordinator
Mark DiCenzi, Laurel Lake’s Groundskeeping Coordinator, does an awesome job of keeping our grounds so beautiful here at Laurel Lake! He and his team maintain our wonderful outdoor areas by performing landscaping and upkeep duties, such as mowing lawns, planting, trimming trees, and keeping grounds clean and safe. You’ll see him all about campus throughout the year power washing balconies, repairing gutters, doing snow removal, and supervising all sorts of activities. Mark is always so pleasant, listens to suggestions and has a wonderful response to the residents. We appreciate his hard work and congratulate him for being November’s Employee of the Month!

RESIDENT BILL WOOLDREDGE RECEIVES SALVATION ARMY AWARD
Laurel Lake resident William “Bill” Wooldredge received the Salvation Army’s highest civic honor, the William Booth Award, last Thursday, at the Salvation Army’s Summit County Area Services, Community Medal Award Luncheon. Bill’s family, friends and several Laurel Lake staff members joined in the celebration of this dedicated man.

Bill is only the 3rd member in our area to have received this award! It is given in honor of the Salvation Army’s founder, General William Booth, to an individual who best exemplifies General Booth’s life, mission, and ministry. As a Life Member of the Salvation Army’s Advisory Board of Summit County, Bill has used his professional expertise and personal passion to provide leadership and community service throughout his life. He is co-founder of the Hudson Community Foundation, co-founder of the Hudson City Schools Foundation, and founder of the Hudson City Schools Student Assistance Fund. Bill has also served as President of Akron Roundtable (1980), Chairman of the Board of Akron Children’s Hospital, President of Hudson City Council, and as a board member for Music from the Western Reserve. He was also named Hudson Citizen of the Year in 2019. Bill is a long-time member and former elder of Hudson Presbyterian Church and values faith, family, and service above all.

We here at Laurel Lake are very proud of you Bill! Congratulations!

SHOWING OUR APPRECIATION ON VETERANS DAY!
We here at Laurel Lake make sure we celebrate our resident and staff veterans and all of their contributions - not only on Veterans Day, but all through November. We truly appreciate everyone’s dedication and sacrifice.

In preparation of Veterans Day, our resident volunteers lined our entrance drive with flags. There was a special Veterans Day Program for the entire community Tuesday morning, including a Color Guard from US Navy Operational Support Center in North Canton, recognition for each branch of the armed services, musical entertainment, and our guest speaker Dr. David G. Meyers, a volunteer at the World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Meyers gave a presentation on “The Krall Trail: The Battle Before the Battle of the Bulge during WWII.” The program was followed by a special get together and luncheon.

Stop by to see the Veterans Day exhibit in the Mike & Mae Collins Gallery on campus, which includes various resident and staff photos and memorabilia as well as art from Hudson students and grand children.

LAUREL LAKE CELEBRATES DEFICIENCY-FREE SURVEY
Laurel Lake is proud to announce that Greenwood, our Assisted Living Neighborhood at Laurel Lake, has earned a deficiency free Ohio Department of Health survey for 2025! This exceptional accomplishment highlights Laurel Lake’s unwavering commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to our residents. This is a significant rating for families looking for assisted living environments.

Zero deficiencies affirms resident safety and quality care, builds trust with families, and protects the community.

When Greenwood has a “deficiency-free” survey it means that it is operating in total compliance with state regulations regarding the care to residents, services provided and overall environment. The ODH evaluates communities on:

• QUALITY OF CARE
Caring for residents’ hydration, nutrition, medication distribution, wound prevention and care, as well as assistance with activities of daily living.

• QUALITY OF LIFE
How well a community is doing in accommodating residents’ needs, creating a home like atmosphere that values respect and dignity, as well as providing meaningful social and recreational activities.

• COMMUNITY PRACTICES
Assessing a community for its ability to provide comprehensive and compassionate resident care. The ODH evaluates how residents are treated not only physically, but also emotionally.

• STAFFING
Ensuring that a community has the proper amount and type of qualified staff to support and care for residents.

Congratulations to our residents and staff on this outstanding achievement!
