Julie has 40 years of nursing experience and has been a part of Crown Center’s staff for over 5 years. Crown Center is Laurel Lake’s Skilled Nursing and Rehab neighborhood and it is a better place when she is around. You’ll always find Julie helping on the floor, with a great attitude and a smile. SHOW SOME KINDNESS THIS WEEK!
With Valentine’s Day, we also kick off Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 14-20). Kindness can be seen in simple things we do daily, without even thinking. Say hello to someone in the hallway. Ask an acquaintance how their day is going. Make an effort to recycle. Meet a friend for lunch or coffee. Call a friend or relative. Clean the snow off of a friend or coworker’s car.

As you sprinkle acts of kindness around throughout your day we hope it becomes a regular habit. Acts of kindness and compassion are not only good for the world, they benefit us. Choosing kindness increases our brain’s levels of oxytocin and dopamine - and as a result we find rewarding social connections and improve our sense of wellbeing. So let’s get busy!

FEBRUARY EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - Susan Busko, Life Enhancement Manager
Congratulations to Susan Busko for being voted the February Employee of the Month! Susan works tirelessly to provide an activities environment where residents can thrive at all levels of need. She gives her time, talents, and resources beyond measure. Susan manages 12 Life Enhancement staff members serving our entire community including Independent Living, Greenwood Assisted Living and Crown Center Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation.

For example, during the holiday season, Susan not only led her team in organizing a robust schedule of events, she worked late into the evening and over weekends to make sure areas were decorated beautifully. When other staff began catching their breath in January, Susan and her staff were still hard at work tearing down and storing all of the trees and decorations, planning 2026 events, and scheduling rooms for both staff and resident activities without overlap. Susan demonstrates Laurel Lake’s core values daily - in the way she serves residents and staff alike. Thank you for all you do Susan!

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY
Well, Laurel Lake Louie briefly poked his nose out of his burrow this morning and saw his shadow - so we’re in for six more weeks of winter weather. Take heart though, even though this winter has been challenging, we are still making progress towards spring!
