Waiting for parole isn’t just hard for the person inside.
Families on the outside carry that waiting too.

Hope, preparation, and uncertainty become part of everyday life.

This morning I have visited stores in Jefferson County to acquire funding for our Family Reentry Workshops. I went to 2 Walmart stores, 2 Walgreen stores, Sam's, 2 Target stores. and Costco. By the time I got home I already had a grant approval from one of them.

Thank you Hueytown Walmart for your generous grant approval and your support for our mission.

Parole denial doesn’t just affect the person inside.

Families feel that heartbreak too — and then comes the waiting for the next chance.

This is part of the story behind why I began advocating.

We received a text from one of our clients today and I wanted to share. Tim has been able to get a good job, spend time with family and friends, get his own place to live and is thriving. We greatly appreciate his kind words and wish him the best of luck.

Kelly and The On The Way Home Team,

I wanted to reach out and say thank you from the bottom of my heart. After 17 years away, the world felt like a lot to take in. When I was hit with the last minute fear of not having a place to stay, you didn’t turn me away - you cared enough to roll up your sleeves and help me search. Knowing I had you in my corner during those stressful moments meant more than words can say. Between the help with my search, the clothes, and the personal hygiene supplies, you made a daunting transition feel smooth and human again. I truly appreciate you, Kelly and everyone at OTWH for looking out for me.

With respect and gratitude,
Tim

The justice system feels fair… until it touches your life.

Everyone has a moment that changes how they see the world.

Mine came when someone I love entered the prison system.

I shared the full story behind why I started advocating and founded On The Way Home in a blog called My Why.

If you’ve ever wondered why this work matters to me, that’s where the journey begins.

People often see the nonprofit.

They don’t see what it takes to build one — especially when the mission is helping people rebuild their lives after prison.

This work matters.

Coming home can be one of the hardest steps — but you don’t have to face it alone. At On The Way Home, we combine case management, parole planning, and housing support to tackle the biggest barriers in Alabama: unstable housing, employment gaps, complex parole requirements, and community stigma. We meet people where they are, help plan next steps, and connect families to resources that restore stability and hope. Learn how we can walk this path with you: https://wix.to/3VAm3zA ❤️🏠🤝

Understanding the road back starts with listening. Since 2023, On The Way Home has been boots-on-the-ground in Alabama, supporting formerly incarcerated men and their families with housing, job placement, healthcare connections, parole navigation, and community reintegration. We meet people where they are with in-person support and referrals that reduce recidivism and rebuild families. Learn how we can walk this path together: https://wix.to/dHi4nB4 🧡🤝 .
