This little girl first arrived at the Esperanza Viva youth home with a head full of lice, teeth black with decay, and a lost look in her eyes. Her life before coming to EV was filled with abuse and neglect. Her hair had to be shaved to combat the lice, and a couple of teeth were extracted; she appeared a shell of a child.
But we breathed words of Hope into her life and the dedicated workers at EV consistently showed love through action. Things would be different, they would be better.
Now she goes to school and jokes with friends in her shared dorm, her glossy black hair flows down her back and her teeth are a sparkling symbol of loving care. She can hug her little brother and no longer worry when their next meal will be or if someone unsafe will show up at the door.
She knows what love is, no strings attached. She can see God's love through the care of EV members, now called family. She is safe; she is home.
