It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the passing of our friend, Louis Edward Wheaton, on November 19, 2025. He was born August 14, 1949, in Gay, Oklahoma, to the parents of Lillie Mae (Adkism) Wheaton and Foard Wheaton.
Louis began his education at Lincoln Elementary School in Grant, Oklahoma, he also transferred to Booker T. Washington in Hugo, Oklahoma for grades 9-10, and completed his education at Grant High School in Grant, Oklahoma, graduating in 1967. He began his career as a Labor Machine Operator at Campbell Soup Company in Paris, Texas, where he worked faithfully for 41 years.
In 1969, Louis married the love of his life, Sherrie McClure, and to this union two children were born—a son, Louis C. Wheaton (Scout), and a daughter, Kimmy Wheaton. He was also drafted in 1969 into the United States Army where he served honorably for 22 years, including active duty during Operation Desert Storm, before retiring from the Army Reserve in 1991 with an honorable discharge.
Louis enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and grilling. He was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and held a life-long love for the Army. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Antioch Baptist Church of Gay, Oklahoma. He, later became an associate member of The Eternal Life Fellowship Church, where he regularly attended and participated in all activities until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, his son Louis C. Wheaton (Scout), one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie of Hugo and daughter, Kimmy Wheaton of Princeton, Texas; and his nephew, Ryan Ford also of Princeton, Texas. He also leaves behind his brothers, Frank Guess of Idabel, Oklahoma, and Rodney Wheaton of Houston, Texas; his sister, Robin Simmons of Hugo, Oklahoma; and his aunt, Maeomie Ellis of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, he is cherished by a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Louis’s life will be honored on Saturday, November 29, 2025, 1:00pm at the South Central District Building at 506 S. Dewitt in Hugo, Oklahoma, and his final resting place will be Crosley Cemetery in Hugo. Please keep Louis’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this season of life.
