My husband had his one year appointment with his bariatric surgeon yesterday... which now also happens to be the same day he hit an absolutely diabolical, and what should have been unrealistic, goal.
My husband lost 250 lbs in one short year. 12 months. 52 weeks. 365 days. It took one tiny little blip of a year for him to find himself again. For him to love himself again, for him to allow the darkness to dissipate, for him to let light dance around in his eyes, for him to smile and laugh again, and really, really mean it.
There are really only 3 people responsible for this tremendous feat. Him (and all his insanely hard work), our Lord and Savior for aligning the universe and creating this plan to save my husband's life, and the man in this picture, Dr. Alian Garay.
All Glory goes to God, yet all thanks go to this amazing man, Dr. Garay. I watched my husband's doctor laugh today for the first time since we've met him, I watched him get wide eyed when realizing how much weight Gary had lost and I watched him "tell" Gary how proud he was of him, simply by reading his facial expressions and body language, while he sat silently in awe, beaming from the inside, likely admiring his handy work.
I don't know that he will ever see this, but thank you Dr. Garay. You're a blessing and we will never be able to repay you for the opportunities you've given my husband. We don't even really know you on a personal level, and we will love you forever. And thank you for your service. 🇺🇸
If you're ever on the fence about this surgery, do it and do it with Dr. Garay at Bariatric and General Surgery of Kingwood... It will be the hardest thing you've ever done, but I promise you that in return, it will be the most rewarding. I will put some vulnerable before pictures in the comments, if you are curious.
