The first Friday of February has been designated as National Wear Red Day ® in the United States. On this day, men and women are encouraged to wear red as a symbol of their support of women’s heart health.
Encourage everyone to wear red as a way to bring attention to heart disease in women. Many women wear red dresses, which is the identifying symbol for the day. Men can be asked to wear red ties or shirts. Employers schedule workshops and red/heart related wellness events to educate staff about prevention and screenings of heart disease.

Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. Learn more, get involved, and take action!

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month
👉You don’t need to know your blood type.
According to a national survey conducted in April 2018, on behalf of the Red Cross, more than 53 percent of people believe they need to know their blood type to donate blood—this is simply not true. We need donors of all blood types to ensure a sufficient supply for patients. Donors may be notified of their blood type following their donation when they receive their blood donor card or by creating a profile through the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

January is Thyroid Health Awareness Month
The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the base of the neck just below the Adam’s apple. Although relatively small, the thyroid gland plays a huge role in our body, influencing the function of many of the body’s most essential organs, including the heart, brain, liver, kidneys and skin. The thyroid’s job is to make thyroid hormones, which are secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should. It is vitally important to ensure your the thyroid gland is healthy and functioning properly.

Established in 2009, World Pneumonia Day is marked every year on November 12th to:
Raise awareness about pneumonia, the world’s leading infectious killer of children under the age of 5
Promote interventions to protect against, prevent, and treat pneumonia and highlight proven approaches and solutions in need of additional resources and attention
Generate action, including continued donor investment, to combat pneumonia and other common, yet sometimes deadly, childhood diseases
Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of deaths in children under five years old despite being easily preventable and treatable. Although vaccines and other preventative efforts are decreasing the burden of the disease, much more work is still required. Those living in poor communities are at highest risk of pneumonia. Every child, regardless of where they are born, deserves access to lifesaving vaccines and medicines.

November is National Diabetes Month.

Here’s to managing your diabetes for a longer, healthier life. There isn’t a cure yet for diabetes, but a healthy lifestyle can really reduce its impact on your life. What you do every day makes the difference: eating a healthy diet, being physically active, taking medicines if prescribed, and keeping health care appointments to stay on track.

The first full week in November is National Diabetes Education Week
Nearly 30 million Americans suffer from diabetes, another 86 million have prediabetes, and the total national cost of diagnosed diabetics is estimated to be around $245 billion. These statistics are a good reason to team up with Positive Promotions and make a positive difference for National Diabetes Awareness Month.
