Today we’re celebrating Michelle and her incredible impact during the past 2 years with Bloom Consulting!

Within her very first year, Michelle was promoted to Virginia State Coordinator—and let us tell you… she coordinates! 👏

Virginia has experienced tremendous growth across our Work Experience, School Year, and Summer services, supporting students and participants with a wide range of needs. Through it all, Michelle and her team continue to navigate those needs with care, organization, and a commitment to excellence that truly reflects the heart of Bloom.

Her leadership has helped keep Virginia’s programs running smoothly while expanding opportunities for the individuals and communities we serve. Simply put, we couldn’t imagine anyone better in this role.

A message from our Founder, Bruce Bloom

Here are a few fun facts from the early days of Bloom Consulting.

Bloom started with no funding, few industry connections, and an old car with bald tires that loved to hydroplane in the rain. 🚗🌧️ What we did have was a clear purpose: serve people well and do things the right way.

In the beginning, we didn’t even have an office. Every Monday morning our team met at Einstein Bagels or the café at HEB ☕🥯 to review the progress of every client. As the team grew, finding a table big enough became a challenge. I used to joke, “If we can’t find a table big enough, meet me in aisle 13… the chip aisle at HEB.” 🛒🥔

Our growth came from a simple philosophy: tell the truth, respond quickly, treat counselors and families with respect, and always do right by the people we serve.

In 2013, the local offices of Texas Workforce Commission (then DARS) honored Bloom Consulting as CRP of the Year 🏆, a recognition that meant a great deal to our team.

Eventually we moved into our first office—a very narrow one-room space 🏢 where, once the conference table and filing cabinets were in place, you practically had to walk in sideways just to get to your desk.

One of my favorite Bloom stories is how our Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) summer camps 🌞🎓 began. I suggested we try hosting a summer camp so one of our staff members could help cover part of their salary during the slower summer months. That first year we hosted five camps.

Today that small idea has grown into programs that help students explore careers and prepare for life after high school, and this summer we are preparing to host 38 camps across the country. 🇺🇸

A few years in, we had placed so many individuals in employment that I couldn’t walk into a Walmart, Target, or grocery store near my home without running into someone we had supported. 🤝

Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far Bloom has come. What started in cafés has grown into an organization serving communities across multiple states—while staying true to the same mission:
Serve people well and do things the right way. 💙

Today we celebrate a truly special milestone—14 years of Bloom Consulting and 14 years of visionary leadership from our founder, Bruce!

What began as a powerful idea rooted in opportunity, dignity, and inclusion has grown into a movement that has impacted countless lives across communities. For 14 years, Bruce’s passion and commitment have helped shape Bloom into an organization that believes deeply in the potential of every individual and works tirelessly to ensure people with disabilities have access to meaningful opportunities, community, and employment.

Because of that vision, Bloom has grown into a team of incredible professionals who show up every day to support individuals, families, and communities with heart, purpose, and determination.

Bruce, thank you for the leadership, courage, and belief that started it all. Your dedication continues to inspire the work we do and the lives we touch.

And to every team member, partner, and supporter who has been part of this journey—thank you for helping Bloom grow and thrive for the past 14 years. 🌱

Confidence isn’t something students are simply told to have.

It’s something they build through experience.

At Bloom Summer Camps, students receiving special education support participate in Pre-Employment Transition Services that help them develop workplace skills, independence, and self-advocacy.

Each activity, conversation, and hands-on experience helps students take another step toward adulthood.

Because when students believe in their ability to contribute, they begin to see themselves differently.

Not as someone who needs to be separated from the community.
