Today, the Humboldt Area Rescue Squad/EMS was proud to participate in the 2026 Mock Crash at Milan High School. This powerful demonstration is designed to show students the very real and life changing consequences of drinking and driving, as well as distracted driving.

While it may be a simulation, the message is real. Every day, first responders are faced with situations just like this where one bad decision can impact countless lives forever. Our goal is to educate, raise awareness, and hopefully prevent these tragedies before they happen.

We want to thank Milan High School and Milan Fire Department for the opportunity to be a part of this important event and for their commitment to student safety. Remember: make smart choices, stay focused behind the wheel, and never drive impaired.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own, Deputy Kenny Smith. Our hearts are truly broken as we grieve the loss of a great friend, colleague, and dedicated public servant.

Deputy Kenny faithfully served the citizens of Gibson County for many years. He also served the City of Humboldt with the same commitment, integrity, and compassion. He was a true servant to his community, and his impact will be felt for many years to come.

Gibson County has lost a great man, and we are all better for having known and worked beside him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply he was respected and loved.
