It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own, Deputy Kenny Smith. Our hearts are truly broken as we grieve the loss of a great friend, colleague, and dedicated public servant.

Deputy Kenny faithfully served the citizens of Gibson County for many years. He also served the City of Humboldt with the same commitment, integrity, and compassion. He was a true servant to his community, and his impact will be felt for many years to come.

Gibson County has lost a great man, and we are all better for having known and worked beside him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply he was respected and loved.

The Humboldt Area Rescue Squad/EMS spent the weekend conducting valuable hands-on training. Over the last few months, our training staff has been working hard to stay up to date with new techniques while still reinforcing the tried-and-true basics.

Basic Extrication Instructor and Rescue Lieutenant Steven Dolan, with the assistance of Director Jerry Privitt and Chief Richard Duncan, took time out of their weekend to guide some of our members through the fundamentals of vehicle extrication.

Training is one of the most important parts of being on the Rescue Squad. Things are constantly evolving in emergency response, and we must adapt and improve the way we operate to ensure the highest level of service to our community.

Our members continue to dedicate their time and energy to learning new skills and refining old ones — because when the call comes in, preparation makes all the difference. We’re proud of our team’s commitment, teamwork, and willingness to serve.

The Zombie 5k & Glow Run was a huge success! 🏃‍♂️💨

We are absolutely thrilled by the amazing turnout of over 90 runners, making this our biggest run in the last three years! Your support truly made it a night to remember.

A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to our fantastic sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the whole community for the festive yard decorations and cheers!

This day honors the brave men and women who are the first to arrive and help during emergencies — our Rescue Squad, Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, Dispatchers, and other emergency personnel.

They put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve our communities, often running toward danger when everyone else is running away. 💙

Today, we pause to recognize their courage, dedication, and the sacrifices they and their families make. If you see a first responder today, take a moment to say thank you — a small word that means so much. 🙏
