Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank Blood donation is a short, simple process that enhances and saves the lives of local patients.

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank was incorporated in 1960 by local physicians and community leaders who recognized the need for an organization to manage the blood supply for the local hospitals. Today, CPBB needs over 75,000 blood donations per year to treat local patients in 14 South Central Pennsylvania Hospitals.

"My wife and I have been whole blood donors for many years. Upon relocating to Jacksonville FL two years ago, we learned of the opportunity to donate platelets and all the good it provides. The first year, I tried to donate both whole blood and platelets. However, it wasn’t long until my levels became too low to donate either. So, at the beginning of this calendar year, we decided that my wife would continue donating whole blood every two months, and I would donate platelets every two weeks. For some seven months now, this has worked extremely well. So grateful to contribute!"

🩸💪 Saving lives, one pint at a time!

Our Chief Commercial Lending Officer, Joe B., has been donating blood since the 1990s—first with Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank and now through the American Red Cross.

Why does he do it? To help others and conquer his fear of needles. “It is such an easy process, takes less than one hour to complete and is a life-saving measure to assist many other individuals. The Red Cross staff makes it an enjoyable, pain free experience,” Joe says. “I love watching my blood journey through the Red Cross blood donor app to see the lives impacted by a single donation.”

This , follow Joe’s lead—donate blood, save lives and be a hero!

Our Story

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank (CPBB) is a not for profit community blood bank incorporated in 1960 by a small group of local doctors and community leaders who recognized the need for an organization to manage the blood supply for the four local hospitals. At that time, area hospitals needed 7,500 blood donations per year to treat their patients. Today CPBB needs over 75,000 blood donations per year to treat local patients in 17 hospitals located in 7 counties in South Central Pennsylvania. The total population we serve exceeds 1.6 million people.
