👩🏻‍🍼March 22-28th marks annually World Doula Week. Each year a new theme is focused on . I happen to love the theme this year, and as a postpartum doula I resonate so deeply with it.

👩🏻‍🍼Holding Humanity: Doulas at the Heart of Care”. This theme emphasizes the essential role doulas play in providing relational, compassionate, and emotional support to families, acting as a crucial link within the maternity care system.

👩🏻‍🍼I have proudly devoted my life to being a postpartum doula for ten years now. I have supported countless families within that time , doing my best with each family to be fully present, showing up loyally with love, unwavering support, guidance and resources.

👩🏻‍🍼It’s very hard work emotionally and physically, and deserves to be acknowledged, celebrated and respected, not just once a year but every night you show up at your clients home ready and willing to make a positive difference in the lives of postpartum families!

Denmark just took a major step.

They are moving to end the “cry it out” method after a nationwide review and more than 700 psychologists raised concerns about potential risks to brain development and attachment.

Let that sink in.

Over 700 psychologists.

The study looked at what happens when babies are left to cry for extended periods. Researchers linked prolonged crying without response to elevated stress hormones and possible long term impacts on brain development and emotional bonding.

And honestly?

None of this surprises me.

We have known for years that babies are not manipulating. They are not testing you. They are not trying to control the house at 2 AM.

They are signaling.

A baby’s nervous system is immature. Their stress response system is still developing. When they cry, cortisol rises. When they are comforted, their system regulates.

That regulation is not weakness. That is brain wiring.

Responsive caregiving helps build secure attachment. Secure attachment supports emotional regulation, resilience, and cognitive growth long term.

This is not about shaming parents who have used certain methods. Many parents were told it was the gold standard. Many were exhausted and doing their best with the information they had.

But we are allowed to grow when the science grows.

Denmark’s decision reflects something bigger: a shift toward understanding early childhood through a neurological and psychological lens, not just a sleep schedule lens.

Sleep matters. Parents matter. But so does how a baby’s developing brain processes stress.

There are gentle, responsive sleep strategies that do not require ignoring distress. There are ways to support sleep without compromising connection.

And at the end of the day, babies are not meant to self soothe in isolation.

They learn to regulate by being regulated.

That is biology. That is attachment. That is development.

We are not creating dependence. We are creating security.

And secure children eventually become independent adults.

If you responded to your baby at 2 AM even when you were exhausted…

You were not creating a bad habit.

You were wiring a brain.

🩵 This Valentines week the stork delivered me a brand new baby cherub to care for until spring , and he is so heavenly and precious!

I wanted to give a quick update on my 2026 postpartum doula availability.

“Miss Lisa Got A Brand New Bag” literally!
I have had the pleasure of caring for the kindest postpartum family these past 12 weeks!
Together we have successfully managed breastfeeding challenges, baby weight gain, oral tie revisions, baby and mommy body work and gentle safe sleep support!
What a rewarding and wonderful feeling it is to end this contract on such a high note! I will miss this precious family so much!!! But I feel confident knowing that I set them up for parenting success as they navigate on their own now .

Sometimes us moms to adult children need a space for bragging rights too….
This is my middle son , my Valentine Cupid who recently did a modeling shoot for clothier.

I’m not such a fan of the longer hair and “stache” but what I love and admire so much about my boy is that he is an old soul who was born identifying with everything from the 1970’s era. And well , now he looks the part! His look brings him back to his authentic self where he seems to be shining the brightest lately!

I had the pleasure of accompanying my doula baby to her cranial sacral appointment yesterday.
It’s always fun to have a little field trip with my clients especially when it’s loaded with so much informative information and exercises to do to improve babies wellness and core.
We worked on age appropriate tummy time techniques , stretches and positioning.
A special shout out to Kate .align for updating me on so many resources and techniques for my postpartum doula babes!

You’ll be proud to know that I incorporated all of the things we learned from you into playtime and tummy time today!
It’s always a treat to see both you and Austin on the same day!!
