I have patients take the ACL RSI questionnaire throughout their rehab process to get an idea on how their confidence is growing. But they don’t return until they score at least an 80%.

The PRO Method: Phase 6 Deceleration

If a patient is struggling with loading the split squat because of the eccentric component (surgical side in the back position), then it is likely to translate to inefficiency with deceleration.

The PRO Method: Phase 5 Intro to Impact

This is where my ACL patients have to pass a battery of tests to show readiness to begin jogging.

In my ACL protocol….

15 hops in place is one of my criteria for my ACL patients to pass!!!

Here is what I look for…

1. A “soft” knee when landing showing good force absorption

2. Landing in the same place with each rep

3. Comparable to the leg

That’s it and we can start 🏃🏽‍♂️

If you’re not doing these 3️⃣ things after ACL surgery … you are going to STRUGGLE to walk🚶‍♂️normally 😣

1️⃣ Quad sets.. simple… boring.. but so important! Use e-stim with all these exercises until you can see a good quad contraction without it!

2️⃣ TKEs in Standing.. train your quad strength in the upright position for good carryover to walking

3️⃣ Prone TKE.. this one is the most challenging since it is done against gravity.. but if you can do this into full ROM without hip compensation you will have the quad strength to walk normally

Do these 3️⃣ things EARLY & OFTEN 👏🏽following ACL rehab and don’t skip steps! You’ll thank me later 😉
