I started with the basic recipe that most produce (Elderberry, cinnamon, ginger, clove) but did not find it as effective as I had hoped, nor was the taste super kid friendly. So my children and I set off to find our own recipe. The extra ingredients include rosehips, which are great for respiratory issues, fresh rose hip contains a lot of vitamin C, so it shares many uses with vitamin C including preventing and treating colds, flu, and vitamin C deficiencies.
I also added star anise, which is the active ingredients in Tamiflu. Star anise actually stops the flu virus from replicating. We added lemon juice for MORE vitamin C! Our organic pear juice provides a significant amount of fiber and other essential nutrients, and can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain gut conditions. We use local raw honey from a farm here in Huntersville, NC! We produce a quality Elderberry syrup made from wild crafted and organic ingredients. •Our Elderberry syrup is kid tested and mother approved•

This is a typical "elderberry syrup" that is sold at a big box store. What do you see?

First off, price.

Their syrup = $4 per oz.
Our syrup = $2 per oz.

Now let's compare ingredients, shall we?

The "syrup" portion in their syrup is made with glucose syrup. That is simply sugar in a syrup form. These sugars are harmful to the body and lower your immune system.

The elderberry that this syrup contains is made with an elderberry extract. An elderberry extract is made by soaking elderberries in water, alcohol or glycerin. The berries are then removed and what was drawn out into the solution is what makes up the extract.

Other ingredients include citric acid and potassium sorbate, both are lab created and synthetic. These prevent spoilage and allow it to stay on a shelf for a year.

When compared to our syrup, which contains no synthetic thickeners, sweeteners or extracts, it really doesn't belong in the same category. They both carry the elderberry syrup title, but they aren't comparable. At all.

Our organic elderberry syrup is made with actual elderberries, herbs, spices and a healthy portion of local raw honey. There are no extracts, no synthetic or lab made ingredients and no preservatives.

Just simple ingredients from the earth.
