It really does take a village, y’all! 13 years ago, I had just moved to Charlotte, a newly minted Pediatrician- pregnant for the first time. Even as an ‘expert’,I felt so overwhelmed and alone. I knew how to be Pediatrician and see babies in office, sure. But what was I supposed to actually DO once they were born? How does breastfeeding work? What did I REALLY need for my registry-and what was just wasteful spending?
Times like this made me wish I grew up in the 100 room commune-like house my mother had in India. There, family shared the load. They helped each other with laundry, newborn care, cleaning etc. We were never alone. By the time she was 12, my mother had seen more folks giving birth and breastfeeding more than most. It’s the kind of support missing today, now that we live in in nuclear families, far away from our loved ones. Independence was gained, but something else was lost.
Today, I had the honor of meeting so many of Charlotte’s top baby/childcare/birthing /nursing experts, thanks to ‘It Takes a Village’ event! I am impressed with how much we have to offer our expectant Charlotte/Lake Norman/Fort Mill area mothers!
Let’s reclaim our village-one of our choosing. Hoping to reclaim medicine and be a part of yours!

As this gap widens, I hope y’all consider paying for our services. We do SO much more than shots and
sick visits.
