A lot of people don't know what fascia is. It is the thin white layer under the skin that helps the skin glide over the muscles and bend without cracking. If you ever pulled back chicken skin off a piece of meat and looked under the skin and saw a white slimy film and thought it was fat, it's actually the fascia.
The most common inflammation of the fascia is under the foot, called plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is caused by strain or repetitive stress on the plantar fascia (the tissue connecting heel to toes), leading to inflammation, often from factors like sudden activity increases, prolonged standing on hard surfaces, tight calf muscles, obesity, poor footwear, high arches, or flat feet, with pain peaking in the morning. It's an overuse injury where the fascia gets micro-tears from increased tension, making the first steps of the day most painful as the tissue tightens overnight.
The fibers and flesh tear and injuries occur a lot easier when you are dehydrated, so stay hydrated! And take time to stretch and get massages. It matters.
