Sayeh Beheshti, M.D.

Sayeh Beheshti, M.D. Integrative psychiatrist and writer based in Dana Point, California. Working toward healing trauma and restoring wholeness through awareness and meaning.

Dr. Sayeh Beheshti is a graduate of University of California, Irvine (UCI) Department of Psychiatry Residency Program, where she was trained in the latest treatments for a large variety of mental health symptoms and disorders. She has experience in working with a wide range of issues from the most severe disorders requiring complex management and hospitalization, to those struggling with relationships, substance abuse, or weight problems, to very highly functioning individuals seeking a further understanding of their inner psyche or spirituality. Dr. Beheshti is fully competent in both psychotherapeutic techniques and medication management, and has a strong interest in incorporating guided imagery and meditation for those patients interested in this modality of treatment. Dr. Beheshti has a philosophy of treating each patient as an individual with unique needs and circumstances. She firmly believes the best way to formulate an ideal treatment modality for clients is through establishing a strong therapeutic relationship with them and understanding their needs within the context of their biological, psychological, and spiritual makeup as well as the environmental and social context in which they live in.

Isn’t it interesting how something as simple as chewing gum can change what’s happening in the brain?

Research suggests it may increase alertness, support attention, and even reduce stress — not because it’s magical, but because the brain is exquisitely responsive to sensory input.

Isn’t it interesting how technology can sometimes offer such simple solutions to very human needs?

Yes. I literally hugged a cow . It was wonderful 🥰

I shared a new essay today on the patriarchal bargain.
It’s about power, media, and the ways women are rewarded for aligning with systems that harm us.

I’m a psychiatrist by training, and a listener by inclination.

I believe healing happens when we feel understood, rather than reduced to symptoms or diagnoses.

My work is integrative in the truest sense: it attends to mind and body, history and meaning, biology and lived experience. I’m interested in consciousness as a way of life, and understanding how awareness changes what is possible.

This page is a place for reflection, conversation, and writing about trauma, resilience, and achieving wholeness.

Dr. Estes recited this poem to us yesterday in response to one of the questions about how to deal with all the hate we feel surrounded by. I admit I struggle with this concept of responding to hate and darkness with love and light. What a beautiful poem!

Once again I find myself in beautiful Loveland, CO where the fall colors are in full display. Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes does teachings here at Sunrise Ranch, and I have the privilege to attend my second training with her. This one is called The Heart of the Wounded Healer, which I can relate to. Dr. E. Commands such a presence that is impossible to describe and can only be experienced in person.

The shadow isn’t evil. It’s sacred energy that’s been buried — exiled in order to survive.

This week’s post explores the unconscious wounds that shape our culture, our selves, and our relationships. Read it now on Substack.

We all carry both feminine and masculine energies — not as opposites, but as partners in our inner world.
When one is silenced or distorted, we suffer. But when both are honored, we begin to return to ourselves.

My latest post explores the sacred gifts of these archetypes — and what it means to heal the imbalance, from the inside out.
