Yoga Wisdom, LLC Mother - Daughter Yoga classes that incorporate yoga, journaling and inspiring conversation to help According to Clinical Psychologist Dr. Robin F.

The statistics from the NYU Child Study Center Website are startling. Goodman “Girls' self-esteem peaks when they are 9 years old, then takes a nosedive.” As a Mom of two young girls, I decided that this was not the path I wanted for my daughters. I decided to create Yoga Wisdom, LLC and became New York’s first Believe in She Change Warrior. Believe in She, Inc. is a San Diego-based company with a mission designed to “empower Moms and their tween daughters to live happier and healthier lives using yoga and journaling to start conversations that strengthen the mother- daughter bond and improve self-esteem." A Yoga Wisdom class is not your typical yoga class. It is not about creating a serene and quiet environment nor pushing your body into becoming a pretzel. Rather, it is about building confidence and learning to “just be enough."

Let's talk about why these work...As human beings, we are wired to respond emotionally to triggers. Our amygdala serves as the primary center for emotional reactivity and our prefrontal cortex serves as the primary center for top-level executive functioning. Through activities such as mindfulness and breathwork, we can actually rewire our brains so that our emotional responses are more regulated than they were before.

By engaging in these activities on a regular basis, we can develop healthier brain pathways that allow us to be more aware of our emotions and how to manage them better. Additionally, by practicing meditation, we can become more mindful of how our thoughts affect our emotional states and how we can cultivate a better sense of mental wellbeing by deliberately choosing to focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative.

“Before COVID, anxiety lay on my chest like an elephant as I worried who my daughter was friends with, whether anyone was being a mean girl, whether her friends’ moms were safe drivers, whether sick kids were showing up in school, whether boys were being too physical during gym, and on. Sheltering in place has moved all these worries offstage.”

“Girls can also develop their true selves through writing, music, drama and the visual arts. Journaling helps girls process complex feelings. So does meditation and time spent in nature.

We also suggest that girls make pacts with their friends that help them spend more time in the real world—for example, a commitment to put down their devices after 9 p.m. or remove social-media apps from their phones during the school week. These agreements let them all be offline at the same time—hence, none of the dreaded FOMO (fear of missing out).”
